hehe.

I don't have a problem with religion, honestly. It's not for me, but I respect people's beliefs.

I would look at the religions of the world and their holy books as something of "moral guidelines" for how people can live their life, back in the day a bunch of people but these ideas and stories down and said they were "dictated by God" to give people meaning and guidance.

Me, I'm a science guy. Something started it all, but I don't know what that something is. I don't believe anything of the creation stories of any faith.

And no "seven days" isn't a metaphor for billions of years. :(

Why not, exactly? Seems the most realistic explanation of the christian creation myth to me...

Because it's just a cop-out. It's a way for creationists to still cling to their belief that everything is nice and easy with God creating the world.

But you do accept that it is at least a partial explanation?

Well, all it really does is (if you apply it far enough) is replace "by chance" in the very beginning to "By God"...

I mean, if ppl don't believe that we're a result of a series of random events, what's wrong with that?

lol, fair enough. Not like I'm converting or anything, lol--I have been approached by Mormons at least twice in the last month myself and I realise how uncomfortable that can be...

I take being approached by different aggressive religions like I take being approached by a gay man (Brood, for example). I'm flattered but sorry, not interested :( Why take offense to someone trying to convert you? As long as they aren't pushy or offensive, whatever.

Them basically saying "my church is right, urs is wrong" didn't help much either...

It still amazes me the extent to which being right matters to some people.

Maybe it's tied to obsessive compulsiveness...

Or maybe it's all they have in their lives....to be right...at anything.

We cling to our own point of view, as though everything depended on it. Yet our opinions have no permanence; like autumn and winter, they gradually pass away. (Zhuangzi 369 BC - 286 BC)

Quit making up quotes :( J/K

Our opinions are important because we seem to treat them as our "thought children", something we came up with and stand by! Of course, this isn't always the case, as many people's opinions are shaped by others...

You have to admit that being proven wrong isn't exactly fun. I've never met someone who likes to be proven wrong.

Hi, my name is Cold Iron.

Now you have.

Being proved wrong means you've grown. I love it so much I sometimes go to ridiculous lengths to try to get someone to explain why they think I'm wrong. Usually they don't have a reason and just get pissed off. Sometimes they teach me something new.

heh... it's not so much about "being right"
My church has played a defining role in my national history. in my Church, they say the mass in my native language, and nor English, or Russian, or Church Slavonic. The prayers in my church include my country first and foremost, not US, not Russia, nor anyone else.
Yes, im a nationalist. Yes, to me, my country is the most important/special. I don't take it to extremes, as some would, but it's there. Since My church is an integral part of my country and its history, the choice matters to me. On a whole different level.

damn, this is turning into a major derailment... back on topic.....

..... damn, we seem to have covered everything here...

Not saying I don't believe you.....but I don't believe you. :(

I'm not saying you don't like to argue...but on the issues you truly care about and believe in...I'm calling bullshit.

I like learning new things as well. That's really a separate issue.

You don't understand the definition of the word "theory" as it's used in hard science.

Gravity, for example, is just a "theory," because we're constantly learning new things about it.

it matters not one iota, whether or not creation as we know it was created by the divine or is a product of evolution

What matters is that we are living and breathing NOW and at the same time destroying our habitat at an alarming rate, which is hindering humanity and the rest of the species evolving further 

PS:I know very well what Theory means in the scientific world thank you very much
