White Paralt

hey all, i just finished my GOTM re-read and just hit up MT.
GOTM left me with a few questions though (as always)
in the Epilogue QuickBen is muttering to himself about a plan, asking himself "is it time" and that "Whiskeyjack is going to flip over this one"
does this have anything to do with MOI or is it something in a later book (BH?)
also im starting to think Hood is an Elder God. at first i thought he was just like any other member of the pantheon and are relatively young in comparison to an elder god like K'rul. But when Raest has been summoned and hes walking about in a monologue he says he remembers him (hood). [need page ref]
and finally i think i found a mistake. on page 688 in GOTM when the witch is stabbed by vorcans blade which is covered in white paralt poison crokus says the white paralt is a spider and Baruk agrees. but in HOC Admiral Nok (or is it fiddler?) talk about omens. one such omen being when the fleet resupplied their water upstream once and all the barrels were filled with white paralt snakes. men died form being bitten or chose not to drink water yadda yadda yadda
the point being is the white paralt a snake or a spider? (im looking for the page ref for HOC)
MOTHER F&*KING SNAKES IN THE MOTHER F^%KING WATER BARRELS!

NOt exactly sure, but i don't think the snakes were called White Paralt. I haven't gotten to HoC in my current reread yet though, I could be wrong.

It could be kalam's upcoming attempt to kill the Empress...

The plan QB was thinking about in GotM was based around what happened in MoI, I think.
Hood is not Elder. Raest remembers him - but from the days before he was King of High House Death. Raest calls him the Death Wanderer. (I think, I'm doubting myself over that name)
There's also a separate instance where someone speaks about a time "before Hood", which tells us that Hood ascended to Lord of Death at some point post-Ritual (best guess). Can't remember where that is though, perhaps someone else can provide the quote.
And as Wolfgang says - and it's an utterly minor BH spoiler - Kalam reveals there are paralt snakes and paralt spiders, both extremely poisonous. It could still be possible that SE made a mistake in earlier books and forgot to be consistent, but obviously he found a way round it.

There is both a spider and a snake, the spiders poison is much longer lasted. I believe they both result in a most painful death

If what Wolfgang says is true I am more than a little mad at him for writing it in this forum. I have practically known every major death in the entire serie beforehand -- Whiskeyjack, Felisin -- and I was happy that I had no clue what would occur in Midnight Tides and The Bonehunters. Am I under some sort of curse?

@ Dolorous: i think reborn was on the ball. killing the empress sounds like much more of a plan than the jazz that goes down in MOI since QB's plan is mostly to do with the crippled god and that happens later.
@ Tiger Sword: is it possible that my writing god has made an error? i surely hope not. The White paralt venom still makes me shiver though, the detailed explanation of how it kills you in HOC makes me shiver. im just glad snakes cant kill you like that today. that said i do fear the white tailed spider native to my homeland, those bites are nasty

I don't know why people are shocked at SE making mistakes. The timelines are all totally ripped. And anyone who makes a series this big is going be inconsistent at some point.

On topic: As long as the mistakes are of no major relevance to the story he can make as many of them as he likes. I care about the tale, not the details.
Off topic: I think I will change username to "I hate Wolfgang". I am still shivering with anger.

ROFL, welcome to the 'i hate .....' club
i've read in the other forums about people trying to work out the timeline. its generally in the right area but as long as he keeps pulling off these amazing twists and plots im going to let it slide

actually, i think it is both a snake and a spider...
the snake's poison gives a quick death...
the other not so quick...
and very painful...

Question:
Does being the only sane person in the world make you insane?
If a tree falls in the woods and a deaf person saw it, does it make a sound?

Wolfgang, you'll know for next time no doubt
It is a shame though when you know something you shouldn't. Someone told me the twist for "The Sixth Sense" once regarding Bruce Willis, and well.......there was no point in watching the movie after that!
I noticed the invisible admins have removed the post so hopefully the damage was minimal. Rest assured it won't stop everyone from the reading TBH though.

I am accustomed to knowing things such as these beforehand, often due to my own carelessness, but, occasionally, as now, due to another person's mistake. Well, it obviously won't stop me from reading the book. It is a bit different with The Sixth Sense, though, as the twist in the end is the whole point with the movie.

I've got to say i think SE screwed up here, and never intended for there to be 2 kinds of White Paralt, but has covered his tracks nicely.
