The packers/panthers game could potentially feature Favre versus Vinny Testaverde. That's a combined age of roughly 325. Game sponsored by Geritol.

Trade Kyle Boller straight up for Billy Volek, who has a solid record as a starter in the time Tennessee gave him before Vince(and Collins). Volek is an FA after this year if he doesn't work out(then you draft or go after McNabb) and is the better overall QB. Boller is an FA after this year as well, but we already know what he can accomplish and it isn't enough.

That will never happen, but it makes sense as the Chargers get a veteran with similar experience as a backup and the salaries are almost the same, and it gives Baltimore a QB that is better than Boller and hasn't had a chance to shine yet.

Or, sign me and I'll give them a Rich Gannon style west coast offense QB. :D

Volek got traded from the Titans for being a huge dickwad over whether or not he'd be the starter after Fisher signed Kerry Collins. Granted, it would be flat out hilarious if Volek was brought in to be the starter and McNair still won the job next pre-season.

yea, though he has obviously hit a wall.. we'll see what happens. i think they'll go fishing for a QB this offseason, or at least a topflight WR to give them a target other than Heap.

i didnt know this, but apparently they drafted derek anderson originally and tried to pass him through waivers to their practice squad and the browns picked him up instead. they gotta be more than a little unhappy about that

So Ohio beat Meechigan, which means that despite losing last week and being knocked out of the championship game, it's a good season. Even if they lose in the Rose bowl, it's a good season. Screw Michigan.

I admittedly have no real knowledge of College Football, but even I can tell that this season has been really bizarre. It seems funny to be surprised when there is another upset, considering they've been coming thick and fast since week one.
I'm kinda hoping that LSU lose another game just for the mayhem that will cause in the polls. And wouldn't it be funny if Kansas and Hawaii both went undefeated, because the griping will begin again about records and strength of schedule etc. (probably won't be an issue cos i think Boise State will end Hawaii next week). Could a two-lose team make the BCS championship game?
I just hope some smaller teams get to the final to shake up the big powers. Which seems to be the way this season is going.

As an Irish person that has lived and worked in Chicago (and since my university, the University of Chicago isn't a football power to my knowledge), there really is only one team i could support. THE FIGHTING IRISH. I know, I know, a source of much scorn and derision.
But, can one of you wise people explain to me why the fans of Notre Dame aren't already storming the field to beat some humility into that smug git Charlie Weiss?

I have thought for a while now that the Irish have too short a leash on their football coaches. Give Weiss another year, if it's another stillbirth like this season, then fire him, if he goes 10-2 and gets to a decent bowl game, keep him on.

What's really cool is that the upsets are now happening in basketball too. Kentucky just lost to a no-name school and number 20 Stanford lost to Siena, a MAAC school. The playing field is now leveling in college athletics, after years of domination by Miami, FSU, Michigan, Oklahoma etc. Those places are still going to get a good chunk of the Tier 1 recruits, but the Tier 2s and 3s are increasingly choosing to start at smaller programs over being backups at the pipeline schools. Part of that's being propelled by the greater access that the media and NFL/NBA scouts have these days. They can see DVDs, travel to smaller bowl games and keep an eye on more players in more places than ever before.

The big winners here are the smaller schools and the established programs flexible to realize this sea change, adapt and keep winning - like Florida or Ohio State.

I missed the last 10 minutes of the game but that was unbelievable. The Pats are absolutely amazing.

But, whatever about Brady and Moss, that offensive line should be getting a lot more credit than it currently is. Brady seems to have so much time, that he could probably stop and tie his shoelaces before throwing the ball. So much for the Bills causing the upset, which a few pundits tried to suggest!

I am hoping for a Green Bay - New England final, cos then i wouldn't care who won it. I'd love to see Favre win a second title (i had always thought he won two), and John Madden would probably explode with the excitement. But the Pats are playing the most amazing football i've ever seen, and it would be cool if they went unbeaten (regular season) and won the lot. Then they could go down to Miami and break out the champagne with those miserable 72 dolphins, and toast Don Shula for his recent comments. It would be fitting if the Dolphins went 0-16 in the same season.

A bit cruel in my sentiments maybe, but i'm getting tired of the sniping comments from ex-players/coaches about the spygate thing. I wonder if Darth Vader would retire if they did go unbeaten and win another superbowl?

Considering the shambles that is my Bears team (i blame the management mostly), I hope i get to see history in some fashion.

Out of curiosity, considering Favre's excellent season, and Brady's performance being from another dimension, how do you guys think this will affect the old chestnut of the Top 5/Top 10 QB's of all time discussions.

I think in the end, Favre and Brady, and most likely Manning, will all have to be added to that conversation.

most top debates still put the best passers on top. joe montana is not on top of any qb debates, but marino routinely is. montana is usually on the bottom end of the debate. this year is really bradys only great passer year, and you can attribute that to the weapons and system. the deep threat opens up the underneath and visa versa. the dolphins in marinos time arent known for their weapons.

the only thing this season will count for is a top statistical season for a QB and possibly another championship as far as brady is concerned.

favre has already cemented himself as a top 10 QB. unlike the patriots, favre is what makes the packers so good. they have a respectable defense and their run game is sporadic at best. their wideouts are all young and bubba franks is way past his prime.

favre is worth more to the packers than brady is to the patriots. the patriots would still make a case for best record in the afc with matt cassell at QB. they have the running game, offensive line, and defense to give a young QB a very good chance to succeed. brady doesnt get put on his butt often, and even i can go in there and air out a deep jump ball to moss or hit welker on a 10yd curl if im not being pressured. the packers dont have a rungame and the offensive line isnt nearly as good. that is why favre is my mvp so far.

favre definately is in it, especially if he can at least get to the superbowl this year. manning is already in the discussion, but needs longevity to increase his worth. brady i compare to montana. a qb that was successful in a system by minimizing mistakes. you get in the very bottom of the "top X" debates with that

Marino over Montana? If my life depended on one QB leading a touchdown drive to win a game in the last two minutes, I would take Montana over Marino without a moment of hesitation. Of the star QBs of my lifetime, I would take Montana, Elway, Brady, Favre, Jim Kelly, Steve Young, Manning and maybe Boomer Essiason before Marino. Marino had amazing statistics but he never won anything.

If you are comparing individual seasons, sure, Marino had some great years, but he just never got it done like Montana did when it was all on the line.

as a passer, marino was head and shoulders above montana. montana worked very well in the west coast offense because it suited his style and he didnt make mistakes.

and never winning anything doesnt mean everything, you have jim kelly and boomer on there and they both havent won superbowls.

if i needed one drive, i'd take elway, but i wasnt talking one drive. i was talking the best of lists that experts put together, which consistently have marino over montana

ok that one was close.....the defence looked shit, or it more looked like the way other defences do against our team. Props to the Eagles they took it to us better than anyone else has this year. If it wasn't for the picks they would have won the game. But in the end 11-0. Bill will have alot to yell about this week during practice.

Bubba, you are in trouble now.

There were 2 things exploited by the eagles. Better cover those holes quickly or better teams will beat you.

I think the Pats got a wake up call last night and I still expect them to be upset in the playoffs ..... meanwhile in the NFC I think my Seahawks are looking good, I love it that no one is talking about them as contenders. Note to Mike Shanahan get your kicker to do the tackling when you play da Bears !(That's Seattle kicker Josh Brown putting the smack down on Devin Hester )

You got that right. I expect them to address those holes very quickly. We shall see......After seeing the Giants implode I think we can still make the perfect season

Anyone see the great smoker get his back stepped on with cleats yesterday? That looked painful, and he was out for the rest of the game. Super duper.
