How do we know that Draconus never figured it out before? After all, he saw the Hounds leave and hasn't left since then, so there's probably a reason that the Hounds are the only ones to leave that way.

Perhaps Draconus has a better knowledge of where he would end up.

Imagine. The Hounds ended up providing souls or being joined with their Hounds of Darkness other selves and being imprisoned with Idols made of themselves.

Whose to say that the same wouldn't happen to Draconus? He's already shown he has some idea of what's happening in the outside world I'm sure he doesn't want to end up trapped in some random old relic of himself after walking back through mother dark to get out of there.

I think he knows how to get out and that is through Paran. Paran needs to convince Rake that the sword needs to be broken. I think Draconus is waiting to help either kill whoever escapes or can only get out through the breakage or be trapped in some mock up carving of himself somewhere.

Paran was unintentionally transported into the sword by touching the hounds potent immortal spilled blood. It effected him physically and provided a path into the sword. One perhaps not foreseen when created.

Who's to say that the sword isn't in itself a warren holding the gate to mother dark? It certainly appears in some form or another within the deck of cards. If its in the deck then Paran can get there. Being the master and all. Perhaps the scene where he went there first, after the hounds were killed, was just a prelude to what he will inherit anyhow.

I'm of a mind that Paran touching the blood gave him an infection as the hounds of shadow are the regressed into total beasts from of desimbalkis. Soultaken carry a fever within themselves and no-one quite knows what it does to them. Parans ascended blood and the power of the hounds together have made him a shape shifter of sorts. It would be much better if he could control it or have some form of decent recollection of when he changes though.

Perhaps Paran will be the new master of the hounds as he has stated somewhere that he is able to call them at will now.

I think that Paran will go see rake and say to him that he needs to break the sword.

I also think that Rake will reply " I know "

Sorry lots of rambling there and some points im sure people will be like what! ;o)
"I think i was a bad person before. Before this time. I do not try to be good now but i am not bad. Perhaps if i try harder i may get a better hand dealt next time? But surely that makes it pointless? Perhaps i am good. Just good at being pointless. But that would make me bad. Bad at having a point. Ah…. I see now. I was nothing before, I am nothing now. I am bad purely because im pointless. "

It remains a question tho', why Draconus made the sword in the first place - did he just want a sword that warrentrapped souls of those it killed, and the wagon/gate thing came later, or was it always a way to prevent chaos from eating Mommy D and Rake just didn't trust Draconus with it...

selected quotes from Draconus to Paran, MoI, Tor mmpb, pp. 747-8:

Quote

Chaos approached the very Gate to Kurald Galain itself. A defence needed to be fashioned. Souls were... required...

I sought to help Mother Dark -- for it seemed she was incapable of helping herself.

Dragnipur has bound the Gate of Darkness to flight for eternity -- but should the souls chained to it diminish...

The purpose of its very existence was misguided.

Shaken, not stirred.
