Just finishing a reread of hoc and im a little confused with Lorics actions regarding Kuruld Thyrllan and its protector.
Onrack and Trull meet some tiste liosans who dont know that Osric is lost/asleep. It is mentioned that there is a false god protecting the warren.
Does Osric put the winged demon familiar in place becausae he knows of his fathers absence. Later, obviously we know that tlan imass mortally wound the familiar and so leave the realm unprotected.
Its so frustrating forgetting some of the minor points in this series. Hopefully after rereads of the next 2 books i can understand and query things more.

To me, it looked as if Osric didn't really care much about being the god of Liosan, though he seemed more interested in protecting Kurald Thyrllan. Because he's not interested, Loric feels it's his duty to find a suitable substitute, so he's recruited a demon to act as a sort of proxy.
Yes, the T'lan Imass went and mortally wounded that demon (they called it a false god, which I guess it was), and Loric had to retrieve it.
I'm still not quite clear on Loric's motives for travelling into the Raraku Old-World dreamland thing, but the end result is that he meets his father again and is able to use his help to find another demon false god. IIRC, it's hinted that Loric will do some training of the froggy demon in order for it to assume power, but we don't see that.
Maybe someone else here has a good explanation for why the T'lan Imass would want to kill the demon, other than the fact that is a false god. Why would they care, as long as the thing isn't acting tyrannical. Maybe they assumed it had usurped the power of KT in Osric's stead, and so was illegitimate. They had no idea that Loric sort of conspired with Osric to set it up.

The Jaghut pretended to be gods when they ruled over the Imass. The Imass get quite upset when they see the same thing being done again.

I think that pretty much sums up their motive. Thanks Dark Mac.
