I don't understand how people are arguing against Kellanved.

Kellanved was THE MAN.

And he still is.

I reckon ST works alot in the manner of quick ben, manipulating events whilst trying to avoid being noticed. QB works without being noticed wherever possible, and people don't dispute his genius. Now, ST manages to do the same when dealing with the power of a god, and several sources of power (first throne, throne of shadow etc.) The fact that we cannot be sure just what he is capable of is a testament to his genius. He's well aware of the danger of convergence, and so avoids being linked to *anything* if he can help it. We saw how powerful Pust was, and it follows that ST has much more power than this at his disposal (he is a god after all). The fact that he has never had to use it despite being involved in so many events shows how able he is at manipulation of others.

Very well put, yeat I'll make a remark. You are ignoring the very center of his power. His power is to not get noticed, to manipulate, to work in the unseen. He's a God of rashan and meanas. It's what he does. Shadowthrone isn't a god of war, he's a god of deception and deciet... It's not his way to act indirectly (even though that is what he has to do with Quick, Trull and Iccy), it's his way to move pieces here and there, to manipulate the forces of power in the pantheon... to cheat if you will.

Exactly! :) How many times through the books have others referred to st never playing fair! Also power draws convergence right? St has always been talented and powerful, so why wouldn't others of power talent and ambition be drawn to him.

I believe st/kell to be very strong and powerfull, but i dont see him build a empire on his own. He might be very smart to, but i think his greatest talent is placing people in the right positions. He can gather powerfull people around him and keep them at his side, that is a rare and singular ability in the series.
He and his gang were actualy friends, while most other powerfull people only stay together when there was need.

"We were to powerfull to be friends" QoD

the best proof of ST's brilliance is the comment by Edgwalker to Cotillion in BH. "I think I may have underestimated you".

"It's a common occurrence".

As Cot says when he is telling Mappo about the Azath and Icarium. They did a lot of investigating in the early years and realized that the realization of their plans would take more than a mortal lifetime. So what did they do? took advantage of a betrayal and Ascended.
