I was just rereading bits of DG (Gee, isn't this the best book or not? Incredible!). Who's that Jaghut that Duiker sees when he's just about to die?

Gethol, herald of High House Death, Hood's messenger? Anyone wanna confirm this? I have loaned my copy of DH to someone.
And yes, IMO, Deadhouse Gates is the best book thus far.

Didn't they travel over a plain where a Jaghut family was wasted by the Imass, one by one, and their spirits are still there? And this Corporal has a spirit (of the mother?) as a guide and tells Duiker about it.
I took the appearence of a Jaghut before Duiker as a ref or concluding to this piece of story. (and i still think that there are better books in the series, sorry mates)

The Jaghut is thought to be the father of the slain Jaghut Family.. his spirit is the one who talked with Corporal List iirc...
not sure why he should suddenly show himself to Duiker like that though... I thought that was rather strange... unless of course he's Hood
@ IHP - this is the Deadhouse Gates forum, mate... watch out for spoilers please.

Yeah, I thought it was Corporal List's spirit guide. But I also reckon that was Hood himself...(for reasons from later books, only an opinion though).

Ah yeah, glad I was corrected. I remember that particular story arc now. I don't understand why that Jaghut father should be Hood though. He's a god of the humans, afterall.

It's some widely favoured theory here that hood is a jaghut
Though i've never seen where the theory comes from and how the arguments are...

I always thought that the Jaghut was there to either escort Duiker's spirit away or to take over his body as Duiker's spirit left or maybe share his body.

as for the latter...what happens to Duiker is explained in later books and therefore a spoiler, here so read on

Yeah now that you say that I vaguely remember something like that with Duiker. i was just remembering what I thought when I read Deadhouse Gates and had forgot about the other books...I need to read them again sometime.
