I'm about 600 pages into Memories of Ice. The book is very good (much better, I think, than the last one), but I have a complaint: The pannion assault on the Fener protected city just ended, and Itkovian just spent 2 pages doing. . . I have no idea what. Therein lies my problem. I can understand him introducing new characters, or plot twists with little to no explanation, because I'm confident (from experience) that he will clue me in later (sometimes much later, but that's ok). But the whole Shield Anvil atonement thing was incomprehensible to me. And not to give myself too much credit, but I'm usually a fairly competent reader. So here's my question: without giving anything away, are we ever going to find out what happened there? Because unless I get a fairly detailed explanation, that was 3-4 pages wasted.

Oh yes, you surely will. It all happens near the end. When you've finished reading that, you'll understand why Itkovian is one of the noblest characters in the story. His role in everything is simply amazing. Anyways, dont wanna spoil anything so read on.
p.s. don't the Seguleh just rock!?!?

as Nade said, Itkovian did something truly amazing towards the end of the book, and he managed (in his ignorance and compassion) to ruin someone else's .... ok. That's about it.
I'm currently re-reading MoI. Catching on bits that I didn't quite get before. Let's have a lively discussion after you finish the book!
