Scenes in The Bonehunters that made you cry

Ok I haven't seen any threads like this one yet.
I am always impressed with an authors work if he's able to move me through words. The thing that makes me love the malazanbooks is that SE is able to do this over and over again. It doesn't have to be a sad scene, some times it's the pure entensity or beauty of a passage that will give me a lump in the throat or make me have to blink a few times to not loose the rest of my composure.
I'll start:
The part where Crokus and friends are on their way to the Otataral Island, their boat is smashed and Chaur drowns. Barathol pulls Chaur up on the ship that's being protected by the mule and Sister Spite, carrying Mappo, Pust and Mogora.
First there's the part where Barathol shouts at Chaur:
'Barathol," the woman (scillara) gasped.
Mappo watched as the man named Barathol quickly rolled his companion over and began pushing the water from his lungs.
"Barathol-"
"Quiet, Scillara-"
"He was under too long-"
"Quiet!"
Mappo watched, trying to remember what such ferocity, such loyalty, felt like. he could almost recall... almost. He has drowned, this one. See all that water? yet Barathol would not cease in his efforts, pulling the limp, flopping body about this way and that, rocking the arms, then, finally dragging the head and shoulders onto his lap, where he cradled the face as if it was a newborn babe.
The man's expression twisted, terrible in grief. "Chaur! Listen to me! This is Barathol. Listen! I want you to... to bury the horses" Do you hear me? You have to bury the horse! Before the wolves come down! I'm not asking, Chaur, do you understand? I'm telling you!"
He has lost his mind. From this, there is no recovery, I know, I know-"
"Chaur! I wil get angry, do you understand? Angry... with you! With you, Chaur! Do you want Barathor angry with you, Chaur? Do you want-"
A cough, gouting water, a convulsion, then the huge man held so tenderly in Barathol's arms seemed to curl up, one hand reaching up, and a wailing cry worked it's way through the mucus and froth.
"No, no my friend," Barathol gasped, pulling the man into a tight, rocking embrace. "I'm not angry. No, I'm not. Never mind the horses. You did that already. Remember? Oh, Chaur, I'm not angry."
But the man bawled, clutching at barathol like a child.
Then comes the part with Spite that really won me over with her.
continued
He is a simpleton. Otherwise, this Barathol, he would not have spoken to him in such a manner. He is a child in a mans body, this Chaur...
Mappo watched. As the two huge men wept in each other's arms.
Spite now stood beside the trell, and as soon as mappo became aware of her, he senses her pain -[from the meteorshower] and then her will, pushing it away with such ferocity - he dragged his gaze from the two men on the deck and stared at her.
pushing, pushing away all that pain-
"How? How did you do that?" he demanded.
"Are you blind, Mappo Runt? She asked. "Look - look at them, Trell. Chaur, his fear is gone, now. He believes Barathol, he believes him. Utterly, without question. You cannot be blind to this, to what it means.
"You are looking uppon joy, Mappo Runt. In the face of this, I will not obsess on my own pain, my own suffering. Do you understand? I will not.
Ah, spirits below, you break my heart woman.[I/] He looked back at the two men, then across to where Scillara held Crokus in her arms, stroking the man's hair as he came round. Broken by all this. Again.
[i]I had... forgotten.

Thanks for reposting that scene... i think i hadn't really appreciated it first read-thru.
Two esp. moving moments in my mind...
- I wouldn't exactly say i was tearing up, but Apsalar's conversation scene with Squint was pretty deep.
- Truth's (apparent) death and Gesler's reaction was moving.
- Abyss, sob, sniff....

And he began to play.
(Fiddler playing in remembrance of old friends who passed away, with Braven Tooth, Gesler and Stormy attending).

@Bridgeburner - me too. I could almost hear the music playing over the fight scenes outside! And only a little while before I had laughed out loud at the punch.
'Tell me, Tool, what dominates your thoughts?'
The Imass shrugged before replying. 'I think of Mafia, Adjunct.'
'Do all Imass think about Mafia?'
'No. Few think at all.'
'Why is that?'
The Imass leaned his head to one side and regarded her. 'Because, Adjunct, they are sheeple.'
Sometimes I wonder, "Why is that frisbee getting bigger?" ... and then it hits me.
The Imass shrugged before replying. 'I think of Mafia, Adjunct.'

Agree completely, Truth was one of my fav characters and I almost shed a few tears after I got over the disbelief.
Dujek's death was also very sad, maybe because it felt so pointless.

Thought this was about scenes in TB...Whiskeyjack's death was MoI.
Fiddler didn't really move me that much. I thought it was a little melodramatic...especially considering that someone took the mick out of him for not ever playing the fiddle before but just walking around with a broken one. But hey, whatever rocks your world....
For me, it was Cotillion with his head in his hands. That didn't just make me feel sorry for him, it echoed the tragedy of those vaults. Most of all though, it made me SCARED as hell! If Cotillion dispaired then what were mere mortals to do?
The next thing was Banaschar pleading with Pearl to understand Drek's betrayal and crying from his broken heart. It changed Pearl's mind...he even wanted to help. Recall how he hesitated in giving the command to those claw to take out Banaschar? Pearl too was moved.

Yeah the violin scene was one of the most powerful I have read. And for some reason the scene where QB keeps trying to send Icarium back... I didn't cry, but for some reason I found it very moving...

Pearl's death actually moved me. Very Shakesperean. The very first scene posted here had my eyes damp, though.

@Monoch Ochem ~ just reread the posts and can't see mention of WJ...am I missing something?
@Bika ~ Pearl's death was sad, because he obviously cared deeply for LY, but I didn't feel like crying...guess I'm just hard hearted (and no it couldn't possibly have anything to do with his sending the Claw after Kal!)

@ bwgan: A million apologies! This is what happens from lack of sleep and exams! I saw Dujek, apparently, and registered Whiskeyjack. Kinda hard to come to terms with it but yeah, Dujek is dead. Sorry...hee-hee!
Funny how Pearl's death moved you Bika...I thought he deserved it but that's just me being bitter. Making Lostara have to put him out of his misery was touching indeed though.
Hey Simeon! I felt for QB too man! His was just one more stand to continue the brave and desperate struggle in that chamber. Cotillion himself said he'd have come next if the last line failed. Clearly Monoch, Apt and Ibra had been saving themselves for the ultimate fight...Icarium, though, was clearly unexpected. So it would have come down to Cotillion and he too would likely have fallen. QB giving it his all...one more life thrown against hopeless odds. A desperate act and I felt for him too. I hate it when a good mage dies. Frankly, Monok's demise shook me up big time.

I gotta say Bareothol and Chaur. #1 even on the re-read it choke'd me up
But so many!, so many, the whole chain of dog's! Mein Got. Sounds best in German. Just like heavy Metal music.
S.E could write Shakesperian tradgedy no doubt.

Cotillion hold his head in his hands at the end. He is so human at times you forget that he is the god of asassians. At times you think he is what gods should be...

Another one that dropped into mind was the withdrawal from YGhatan, with the descriptions of all the burn victims in the aftermath... fairly awful.
- Abyss, prefers a smaller scale of bbq.

Yeah, that was grim.
SE did a good job there lightening it up with that scene with Captain Kindly (I like that guy; my kind of officer
) and Lieutenant Pores, where Pores tries to hitch an easy ride on one of the carts.

Boatfinder explaining that, and I can't recall the exact quote "We know not what we have done to make them angry with us...and nothing we do appeases them."
Touching naivety in the face of evil makes, to me, the fundamental nature of what the bad guys do (harm those who have harmed no one) appalling.
Karsa shares my grief!

MBoTF has frequently and constanly broken my heart, a thing that I love with the serie. BH was not the "worst" one (can't be compared with Chain of Dogs, Aren massacre, Itkovians death, Dukier's "Let me tell you a story to break your hearts"(or something like that) etc.) but it got to me a few times. Many of those times have already been mentioned but this passage esp. got to me:
Banaschar leaned back, sighing. 'Fine. Here, I'll buy you some more tea-'
'What, you trying to poison me now?'
'All right, how about we share a pitcher of Malazan Dark?'
The huge man leaned forward, meeting Banaschar's eyes for the first time. 'Better. Y'see, I'm in mourning.'
'Oh?'
'The news from Y'Ghatan.' He snorted. 'It's allways the news from Y'Ghatan, ain't it? Anyway, I've lost some friends.'
'Ah.'
'So, tonight,' Braven Tooth said, 'I plan on getting drunk. For them. I can't cry unless I'm drunk, you see.'
'So, why the red-vine tea?'
Braven Tooth looked up as someone arrived, and gave the man an ugly smile. 'Ask Temper here. Why the red-vine tea, you old hunkered-down bastard?'
'Plan on crying tonight, Braven Tooth?'
The Master Sergeant nodded.
Temper levered himself into a chair that creaked alarmingly beneath him. Red-shot eyes fixed on Banaschars. 'Makes his tears the colour of blood. Story goes, he's only done it once before, and that was when Dassem Ultor died.'
Gods below, must I witness this tonight?
'It's what I get,' Braven Tooth muttered, head down once more, 'for believin' everything I hear.'

When I opened up the book, and on the first page I open up to I saw "Lazeen", I cried.
