I think there was a point in MoI when Rake referred someone to Brood for healing, because Brood was better at it than Rake. Could just be making that up though, got no page reference for it.
technology vs. magic

Talking to Whiskeyjack about the leg, during the convo and flashback. No idea on page number either. Memory POWAH!
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

tiam: rake wields KG adn SD, there has been no mention of the 2 warrens being used for healing and he asked whiskey to refer to brood for healing.. also in gotm when his assasin got badly wounded, he didn;t even try to go and heal them, unless he doesn;t have the ability to do so

Something to add here:
Does anyone remember the communication devices WJ and Dujek use at the end of GotM? They seem to be based on KCCM technology, as they were found in a KCCM barrow. WJ states that these devices were more than once decisive for the Malazan army.
You could now counter that powerful mages could do such communication all by their mind and magic powers, but even Rake (one of or the most powerful mage(s)) had to rely on his raven to communicate with Brood ...

I think the reason that the world is more technologically advanced in SE world is because SE makes a big point about the desire of those with power (High Mages etc.) is to keep themselves in power. And if your one of the most powerful mages in the Empire you are going to be anti-technology. And with Laseen or other rulers its easier for them to keep the few happy (mages) by giving them huge amounts of power and rank within the Empire than tryin to keep and army with a lot of explosives happy.
I think it is to show that people with power don't neccesarily do what is best for others, they do it for themselves.

As for Rakes questing abilityt and ppl saying there are shamans who can do it better how is this possible. Examples of mages questing arefebryl in shaiks camp and kamist reloe questing in the 14th. Rake could quest but Silver fox is a BC so stopped him. i believe he said his hand had never been slapped in such a fashion. s it was not his power that was thrown back it was just he expected to assess Silver fox without her doing anything

There was a fantasy series I read once, if I could remember the author/titles I'd mention it, that nicely merged the concepts of magic and technology. There was a primitive culture that began discovering "magic" items and using this magic, but in reality the "magic" was just an advanced technology (crash landed satellites and spaceships and such) that the primitive culture did not understand since it behaived like magic.
The price is wrong bitch!

That sounds like the Steerswoman books. Drawing a blank on the author.

Yes, that's the series I was thinking of! Memory is quite vague on it...*mental note to reread those*.
The price is wrong bitch!
