@Dolorous Menhir - Karsa calls humans children because he is pretty old. In House of Chains the Teblor are mentioned as "long lived" and the 7 would have to wait another 100 years to go through with their plans if Karsa et. al failed...thus Karsa is pretty old I reckon.
Also just becasue the Teblor are insanely tall and humans aren't, doesn't mean they couldn't have had a similar ancestory. Its called evolution for a reason. And no one claims the Tiste races are descendants because we know where they came from...well not know but they were supposedly birthed by Mother Dark and Father Light.

Those are the Imass/Toblakhai remnants, Dark Mac.
Are they? Where do we here that Imass and Toblakai are around at the same time? Since two species are called "Thelomen Toblakai" and "Thelomen Barghast", I assumed they were both Imass descendants.
And don't Jaghut also have many joints? I don't think the Toblakai are ever mentioned as sharing this characteristic.

Karsa was around 80, IIRC. Some of the characters he killed would've been as old as he was.
The first time he kills humans (or when he gets to the village), he says that they're the same size as Teblor children. More specifically, Teblor newborns. The Teblor are REALLY big.

I agree with Dark Mac. I don't think he calls them children because of their age, it's because they are so small compared to the size of adult teblor, just like teblor children.

on the children thing.... it's the size of them, not Karsa's age.
The Jaghut don't have extra joints?.. that's the FA.
The Jaghut tyrants enslaved the Imass... I see no reason why they might not have gotten jiggy wit' it under those circumstances..

Any other? You mean that there is some information given already?

Hmmmm all this speculation, might as well throw in my two cents.
Barghast = Imass + Toblakai - fought on seas together - MoI i think
Jhag = Jaghut + Toblakai - Some reference made in HoC when Karsa was gettin his horse.
Toblakai mentioned above could have been there inbred forms(not so pure blood if you'ld prefer)

No I think its mostly speculation and good ol' fashion intuition.
I think most of the common races are Imass descendant through evolution, iirc Barghast are explicity mentioned as Imass who escaped through the seas with there canoes, maybe wrong in that though. TT are definetly not of Imass/Jaghut descendency imho.

Someone said that in MT Mael said it. But the book is 800-900 km away from me so I can't check.

No, I don't think Mael said any such thing..
To the TT.. MY pet theory is that they're of KC making. Though obviously, I have nothing to back this up. They were fond of messing with biology, and the TT with their localized warrens, seem to be the ultimate warriors. Creating them out of what was available, Eres and Jaghut, might be a possibility

Umm, no they aren't. The Imass are short, the Toblakai certainly aren't.
When I said squat, I meant broad, in shoulders. Karsa sems 7 to 8 feet tall, just like Raest and Gothos. The Jagh (Iccy) seem smaller again.
If Karsa sees a person of 20 (4 times younger) half his size, no wonder he calls them children.

We find out about the Jaghut's multi-jointedness in DG on the Chain of Dogs. It seems like it's a characteristic they share with the FA (and Gothos certainly seemed FA-like in MT).

Nah, in HoC the Toblakai/Teblor are described as being at least three times the size of a human.

We see they have multi-jointed hands. Nothing on whether they have extra elbows and knees, or a torso hinge-thing.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

the one in the well is the pure-blood .... and Karsa is just not that big... he's on a par for height with icarium

I'm not sure about the exact page, but it's the Jaghut that talks to Corporal List and gives him visions. When I read that at first I expected it to be an FA, but it was surprisingly a Jaghut.[/QUOTE]

I suppose they might've shrunk over time, but it's the originals who matter.
And if TT + Jaghut = Jhag, then Iccy would be taller than the average Jaghut.
