Small question/contest : how many times in the whole series does the Malazan soldier Limp (originally from Ashok, now in the 14th) break his leg ?

I have counted three times already - can you find more ?

If you don't want to look for yourslef, these are the ones I found :
Spoiler

edit : and one more found by Dolorous Menhir (see below)

I thought it was a pretty funny thread running through several novels for an otherwise completely secondary character.
I would also like to know if other such side stories have been spotted ?

There's a continually promoted Malazan soldier who's shown up in at least four books, always with a massive headache.

Argan? Aragn? Something like that.

EDIT: Aragan. I knew I was close.

HoC p158: Karsa totals Limp's leg when he's captured by the Ashok. Ha.

That officer, hes not continually promoted. He turns up in DHG as a fist for Mocks hold, turns up in MoI as the ambassador/legate/gonvernor that Laseen sned to negotiate for Coral and the Domin, and then by TBH hes back in Mocks Hold. Think he turns up somehwere else as well, byut not sure where.

He was the Staff Sergeant at the recruiting post where Sorry enlisted in GotM. That's why people talk about rapid promotion - lowly recruiter on Quon to Malaz City Fist to Legate/Ambassador for the Empire.

I think Erikson himself referred to the joke of having a minor character continually reappearing and rising through the ranks. Wasn't he a High Fist the last time we saw him?

i dont think he was high fist.

GoTM-sorry recruiters head ache prone
DG- captain when kalam claw hunts and he comes out and says hes just days away from reposting.
MOI- delegate for the empress on way to genabackis
BH - new fist of Mocks hold sitting in Coops with everyone else lying low

Yeah, the idea was that he was going to be the only character in every book, but SE couldn't think of a way to put him in House of Chains (difficult to get from south-eastern Genabackis to northern Seven Cities in time) or Midnight Tides (which kind of took place on the other side of the planet).

@Asandir : you're right but Dolorous Menhir got it first.

Still, it shouldn't stop people from looking for more...

could be wrong but wasn't Limp's leg broken again in HoC when the achok regiment - what's left of them - turn up to kill Fayelle and co? Just before the raraku sea arrives and Ebron has to refuel their horses for the flight.

Refueling the horses - LMAO

I think you're right, but I'd like a page number for the paperback.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.
