ive wondered who he was and why he was so important whilst he did nothing then drink with an ex priest of drek.
Then i remembered that Fiddler gave brave his name, and that braven tooth trained fiddler, so he must be long lived.
and the only long lived guys were the bridgeburners and the first followers of the emperor.
We know what happened to surly, crust, urko, hawl, dujek, duiker, dancer, dassem ultor, nok and tok the elder. This leaves Ameron. And since Ameron is rarely mentioned in malazan history it gotta be him.

Braven Tooth is famous. He's trained recruits on Malaz for a very, very long time, and he started the tradition of nicknaming soldiers. He was first mentioned in House of Chains, I believe. I'm fairly sure Braven Tooth is just Braven Tooth.

i hate to repeat myself. but: fiddler is OLD! so is braven tooth.
Braventooth has to be even older, yet is able to pound tarr his shield for a full hour. Which is pretty remarkable for a guy that has to be over 70 years...

uh Fiddler is in his 30ies. In the prologue of GotM he was max 10 years older than 14 year old Paran. And in tBH he has shaven himself (not the RodeoRanch way), and Kalam sez he forgot how young Fid was because of the beard. I guess you might look a littke older with a face full of moranth burn marks. and a beard. Beards suck. I like my triple shaven smooth babyskin on my chin.

You know what happened to Toc senior? Please, clue me in. I'd love to know.
As for the issue of Fiddlers age, it's totally muddled. GotM prologue says he's in his 20's, which is inconsistent with all later info in the books. The main series takes place ~10-15 years after that prologue, but Fid appears to be an older man, one looked up to by others, a legend, a veteran who is at least in his 50's, perhaps 60's.
Then you have the anti-aging effects of Raraku vets, all the Bridgeburners are old, older than they may appear. We know they were the Emperor's favourites, which implies they were around for some time before Laseen's coup, which again drive's Fids age upwards.
There is the info from BH about Fid & Whiskeyjack rescuing WJ's sister Dunsparrow from Hood's temple, this is supposed to have happened before either enlisted (WJ still an apprentice stonemason). You would assume this was many years before the books (at least 20-30 years), to allow time for all the military exploits and subsequent careers of the pair, but Dunsparrow appears to be a young woman.
It also flatly contradicts earlier facts, such as the story of Raraku as narrated by WJ to Rake (in MoI), when it seems that Fid and WJ didn't know each other when the BB's crossed Raraku in pursuit of QB - "a young recruit with a broken fiddle", that's roughly how WJ describes him. Also Fid is a Falari, and Gesler says in HoC that there were few of them in the Malazan armies and so it seems unlikely Fid & WJ were compatriots (I'm assuming WJ himself wasn't Falari here, can't actually think of any case when his nationality is given) and so wouldn't have had the chance to meet before the army brought them together.
So...what I'm trying to say is, don't rely on dates and ages from GotM, and arguing that Ameron=Braven Tooth because Braven Tooth is older than Fid isn't going to get you anywhere. The issue of ages is just totally jacked throughout the books.
WJ was older than Fid too, does that mean he was Ameron?
Duiker was older than Fid, was he Ameron?
No, because a wealth of evidence contradicts it. There's zero reason to connect Ameron & Braven Tooth except they were both involved in the Malazan Empire. We don't even know at what point Ameron disappeared, I got the impression it was before the exodus that followed Laseen's coup, but it's likely they were both around at the same time. For that matter, all the surviving "Family" would likely know both Ameron and Braven Tooth (chief trainer of Malaz army), so it would be a pretty rotten position for him to hide in.

You have actually read all the books, right? They are literally packed with extremely long-lived characters, the Bridgeburners are even one of the least notable examples because they are still within their natural lifetimes....
