@Monoch Ochem ~ how could you?? That's just so devious and twisted and so, so, so....just like the sort of thing SE would do to us
oh no *goes off wailing and gnashing teeth in the corner...rushes back to wail* Noooooooo! *runs around the room wailing (and getting funny looks from non Malaz colleagues)*

'Tell me, Tool, what dominates your thoughts?'
The Imass shrugged before replying. 'I think of Mafia, Adjunct.'
'Do all Imass think about Mafia?'
'No. Few think at all.'
'Why is that?'
The Imass leaned his head to one side and regarded her. 'Because, Adjunct, they are sheeple.'
Sometimes I wonder, "Why is that frisbee getting bigger?" ... and then it hits me.

I love it... the entire undead ghost soldier army is actually a thing of the Crippled God. Great twist. Unlikely. But great.
Speaking of Twist, he did say, towards the end of MoI, that he thought the Malazan Empire, (implication not stated:even under Laseen) was a good empire.
The basic notions of rule of law, trade, etc are good ones. It's the people running the show that are problematic.
Back to Crump and the Motts, i like the notion of them as a force to keep the Empire honest. If you look at their history as laid out in MoI, they were a cobbled together force that ended up butchering the Bridgeburners for a year and a half or so. Plus they were in Coral already while the armies were outside feeding the lizards. These are not lightweights.
- Abyss, likes the bit where they started blunting their swords to do more damage.

Hey Bwagan
No worries mate, soldiers allways bitch. And Hedge is way too cynical to fall for the CG.
As for the ones Hedge refers to as being real bastards, he was commenting on their personal attitudes and foibles. They did accend as a military unit with an hopefully intact compliment of corporals, sergeants, and even some officers right up to and including WJ. can imagine the scraps if some of them were the ones they scragged for incompetence.
And I'm sticking by Crump being placed with the Army as a spy/watchdog for the Mott's.
Something tells me they are not just a cobbled together rag tag bunch of missfits. Its all a front, theres some real inteligence behind them. Maybe someone on the Kruppe Tehol level or close to it. SE likes to make his geniuses uber eccentric.

Hah! A lot can happen to you when you die....soldiers spend all of their life dying. Being used. Who knows what purpose has dawned on some of those BBs....Hedge wasn't just bitching Swordbearer. He was up to something CONTRARY to expectaions and he said as much. He said they'd had enough of being played about, or something like that. He even said someting like "Sorry Captain"....
Dunno bwgan....it doesn't sound good to me....>]

Ohh, brilliant indeed! Didn't they went after B&KB also? Because they didn't liked them? Wonder how that turned out.
But I must say my favourite Mott-scene is that where one of those High Marshalls steals dung from the barghast.

I really can't see any Bridgeburners joining forces with Kallor. Ever. Which is what joining the CG would entail.
And why would they subordinate themselves to a new master? If they spent their whole lives serving others, one would think they would want to remain an independent force.

"Those Bole brothers, they’re the worst of the lot, though I’ve heard that there’s a lone sister among them who you wouldn’t want to meet, ever."
I'd love to know what the sister is like...she's gotta be totally off the wall

Monok: Now that's one I hadn't thought of, and don't like to think about, either. The problem seems to be the way SE keeps flipping the Good/Evil switch between books. (Tayschrenn being only the most obvious example.) Back to my original Nietzsche question: is he trying to put his plot "beyond good & evil"?
I don't think the "Bole sister" is a throwaway, because he doesn't seem to have any throwaways. I wonder, though, whether we might have run into her already, whether as an anonymous Mott Irregular or someone else.
But if Mallick Rell and Korbolo Dom turn out to be good guys in the last volume, I'm going to be very seriously dragged . . .

Mogora would make a good Bole sister. Could her being Dal Honese be merely a ploy? I certainly can't think of any others who would fit, unless she's actually an Ascendant.

Mogora is certainly very nearly weird enough to qualify, but Mott Irregulars always seem to be big grinning doofuses when you first encounter them -- too dumb to be major characters, until it turns out they are much more together than you think.
I still don't have a candidate for the missing Bole Sister (if she's showed up so far), but perhaps we will have a few more clues once we find out what happens to Bauchelain and Korbal Broach.
Pure speculation: I wouldn't put money on this, but Blend (of the 7th Squad) might be a possibility. Emancipor Reese would also make sense in the same frame of reference, if the High Marshals are lurking in the sunlight everywhere.

I believe Emancipor Reese is a PoV character in BF and HD, so he's out.
We also get a PoV of Blend in MoI, and there's nothing there to indicate it's her either.
