Does series need to be read in order?

It's best to read the series in order, but you can skip books or read it in any order you choose. This is one of the defining traits of this mind-blowing saga!!!

I'd say you could read Midnight Tides out of sequence (setting and characters unrelated to the other volumes) but then you'd have to read the other 5 books before getting back to those settings and characters. So the order 1-6 is the way to go.

(notes that it's only four weeks max until The Bonehunters is released and bemoans lack of MBF-themed advent calendar)
