Forge of Darkness.

This is SO much better than I expected. I didn't even jump on it immediately, as I was left a bit...underwhelmed by the Crippled God.
Spoiler

I'm not even half way through yet, but it's so good to be back reading good SE, with a ton of familiar characters and revelation about the past. And so far, no long trudges through deserts.

Reason for edit: spoilers!

So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Not to be a killjoy, but you just kinda spoiled the final book of the series this forum is largely dedicated to.

just finished the darkness that comes before.

I was very "meh" the whole way through the book. Not really feeling the urge to go out and buy the second, might get it from the library when I get home

Finished Peter F Hamilton's Manhattan in Reverse and Arthur C. Clarke's Childhood's End. Now on Ben Aaranovitch's Rivers of London, which I got for £1.99 for Kindle - bargain! :)

Just started reading A Song of Ice and Fire again. I forgot how much I love GRRM as a writer. I like Erikson even more, but there's something about Martin's world that just lends itself to the mind's eye. His indulgent use of food and color really helps awaken the senses (although, if I recall there was a scene in Dance that went way over the top).

Looking forward to reminding myself of the dozens of plot details I've undoubtedly forgotten. I've read A Game of Thrones probably a dozen times, A Clash of Kings twice, but I've only read the other three books a single time (which is a shame, considering A Storm of Swords sits as one of my favorite books of all time). Save for Dance, I haven't actually read any of the books since Feast was released.
uhm, that should be 'stuff.' My stiff is never nihilistic.
~Steven Erikson

Rereading it is awesome. There's a whole lot of really cool fantasy moments throughout that belie the whole "the fantasy stuff is just a backdrop" rep it sometimes gets.

been busy these days and w/ temporary disconnection of the internetz, i can't post even if i want to, ouch,

just finished Dead Beat and Proven Guilty and just now started White Night , been devouring these books these past few days, and putting up all-nighters for them, and
man, it's intense!!!
I'm loving every plot development and character development for these books esp w/ Murphy and Thomas,
now I'm patiently waiting for my copy of Small Favor, Turn Coat and Changes before I avail Ghost Story
where do Side Jobs go with the books, should i read it before or after Ghost Story?

I even haven't touched my other books, and I'm high with my Dresdencrack!!!

I read Nocturnal's post (i think?) that she was a little disappointed by Cold Commands, if that is so, should I still pick this one up?
It's not who I am underneath.. but what i do that defines me - Batman, Batman Begins; 'Without our deaths, sir, there would be no crime. Thus, no punishment to match,' 'Mortal Sword - '
'We are done, my friend. Now, in this manner, we choose the meaning of our deaths' - Mortal Sword Brukhalian to Veteran Nilbanas, siege of Capustan
'Ippen shinde miru (want to try dying this once) ?' - Jigoku Shoujo (Hell Girl)

Yes, Cold Commands is better than 95% of the stuff out there. It's got its downsides but it's all together a really good book. Anything by Richard Morgan is good.

Edit: This is assuming you've read The Steel Remains.

Reading Forge of Darkness at the moment. About 100 pages in, so far so awesome. :) Damn is it depressing at times though.

IT GROWZEZ!!!!

...ahem...

Finished the FoD re-read... as with most things Malazan, the reread just raised a ton more questions! In a good way.

Also finished Stross' APOCALYPSE CODEX. Not quite as awesome as the prior book, but certain developments were pure epic for the overarching storyline. Good fun overall.

Trying to finish Rollins' DEEP FATHOM now but its hard when i have so much goodness standing by.

No no no! I second this.
I wasn't disappointed. I only stated how grim and bitter the book is, but I never once said I didn't like it for that.
It's much less vague than The Steel Remains and quicker-paced, also you get a lot of revelations, so I would definitely recommend it.

Attempted to get fully into CALIBAN'S WAR by Corey again, and still found myself not in the right mind-state to get into it (It's very good, don't get me wrong) just having trouble "connecting".

And since my read of KING OF THORNS begins on Friday, I needed something quick to tide me over, and so I thought What better time to finally get around to beginning Bernard Cornwell's Grail trilogy...the adventures of Thomas of Hookton ect....so I began HARLEQUIN this morning. There really is nothing quite like Cornwell. Always good.

You wanted something quick to read so you picked Harlequin? Crazy!

It's similar to his other series, read one and you have to read the others. Though I did think that the Uhtred and Warlord series were slightly better, the Grail books still rock!

And just set aside a day for King of Thorns, you will not be able to put it down!

I can usually rattle through a Cornwell book fairly quickly. LOL

Yeah, I'm sure KING OF THORNS will be unputdownable! Very excited to start it!

_World War Z_. Loving the diary-style narrative.
It is perfectly monstrous the way people go about nowadays saying things against one, behind one's back, that are absolutely and entirely true.

I have about 100 pages left in The Black Prism. Aside from uses of words like "butt cheeks," it would be impossible to tell that this was written by the same Brent Weeks of the Night Angel Trilogy. The guy is a pro now. As much as I'm enjoying this book I still wouldn't say I like it as much as the trilogy. It's not quite as fast paced and fun, but still really good.

sorry, thought that was what you meant, if you and Baco Xtath say its good, then i'll put in on my list,
oh, grim and bitter I can tolerate, unlike before, malazan opened up the way for me,

just finished with White Night and man, i love every page of it!!!
now, I'm in a bit of slump as I don't have any new Dresden book handy right now, my copy of Small Favor still hasn't arrived,
deciding now if I should go with Abercrombie's Before They are Hanged or Week's overdue final book Beyond the Shadows,

thanks, but I'm wondering why Side Jobs is released as a paperback big book and not the usual paperback size of the other books,

Standard operating procedure. Hardback, then trade pb, then mass market pb.
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.
