Whatevs. I just read The Silmarillion for the first time this year (after avoiding it for the past twenty) and found it absolutely mesmerizing. A far cry from anything else being written this millenium. There's a reason the man's work is still revered beyond the fact that his stuff forms the underpinnings of much of contemporary traditional fantasy.

I finished Stephen King's 11.22.63 and though I really did enjoy it - especially the twist near the end - I found that it dragged a lot, especially in the middle section. I don't want to be spoilery so I won't say more than that but yeah...a tad too long for me to say I loved it. Now I'm on Peter Orullian's The Unremembered and as I just started it this morning I haven't really formed an opinion of it yet.

a few chapters in The Wise Man's Fear, chapter eighteen actually last i read, its good that i continued reading it after the 1st, now its slowly becoming really good, i can't help but feel annoyed and excited that i can't read the 3rd book as its still won't be out, but so far I'm enjoying this, it took for the 1st book to get to me,

something struck me as curious, there's so many books out there including ones that I have already read, that have songs in it, this one especially, as Kvothe is a musician, do any of you really sing when there's something like a song in it? or if there's a poem, you recite it like it is, or just read it in the normal way? like SE's Malazan which have poems in it, almost every chapter, for me, sometimes I do, but since I don't know its tune, I try in my own way to sing it sometimes,

The recent Tolkien discussion is timely as I just finished The Hobbit. I only started reading sci-fi/fantasy over the past 7 years or so and put off Tolkien because I already saw the movies and I figured it would be dated. I'm sorry I waited so long, although The Hobbit was written for his kids I found it thoroughly enjoyable and better than most fantasy written today. His prose, characters and world-building are second to none and I can see why he is so highly regarded. I am already into The Fellowship of the Ring and thoroughly enjoying it.

Just finished The Angel's Game. That... got dark in places. Really dark. Hey Abyss, have you started it yet? Cause you want to. You really really want to.

I'm about to crack open The Prisoner of Heaven, but I'm honestly a little scared cause I'm pretty sure I sense a book hangover coming after finishing this.

Almost finished listening to Lev Grossman's The Magicians; not what I was expecting, though I really didn't know much about it. It's like a mix between Harry Potter and the Chronicles of Narnia for adults with language that would make Stover and Morgan blush. I like it. Next I'll listen to the sequel. Reading a little Garrett P.I. and King's Blood, but I've really slowed down cause I've been trying to write for a couple weeks.

I have finally had the time to kick back and finish Orbus , the last of Asher's Spatterjay books.

it started out slow, but, my what a great payoff.

next off, I'll try to finish off the City of a Hundred Rows trilo by reading City of Light and Shadow

I do so love how the six or so of us who have read that series keep being right.

Halfway thru Ruckley's Godless World bk 3/3, FALL OF THANES, and yes it's taking me forever but that's no reflection on the book. Y'know how towards the end of some epic fantasy series things seem to be at their darkest, the goodguys are scattered or dead, the forces of evil are winning, all hope is lost, etc etc...?

This book hits a whole other level of that. I think Stover's BLADE OF TYSHALLE was the last book I read where things looked THIS grim.

Just finished PRISONER. I absolutely loved getting such a huge chunk of Fermin's backstory. You can tell how much CRZ loves writing him from the way that he steals EVERY scene that he's in. You were right in the notion that this was lighter than ANGEL'S, though I suspect it's leading into a much much darker story.

Kicking back into RS for the time being.
