Crime and Punishment is my favourite Dostoyevsky novel, and if you like The Brothers Karamazov you should like it. The only thing I found with The Brothers Karamazov is that it took a while to really get going. I put it down twice before I managed to really get into it. Didn't find that at all with Crime and Punishment though.

Oh, Crime and Punishment gets into the main plot after a 100 pages which is great, I was already prepared for a 300 pages long intro, lol.
And I'm reading the Serbian translation, which is my native language, I can't read Russian books in English, it's too odd, much like I can't read Erikson's work in my native language.

yeah, thanks, i'll have to put-off my Dresden for now, as i just got from my local bookstore and they don't have Storm Front, i'll be back by this weekend, check if they have re-stocked, all i saw was Fool Moon, Death Masks, White Night, Turn Coat, Changes, and the latest w/c the title always eludes me, its there in the tip of my tongue,
i could have bought Fool Moon, but i won't be able to read it at once as i still don't have Storm Front, i couldn't order for a reservation, as my pre-order list from them is already piling up, w/ Stonewielder, Chronicles of the Black Company, Hunger Games books 2-3, The Name of the Wind & The Wise Man's Fear, and Hell Girl vol1(manga), whew!
if this list would be cut down to 2 books then i'll definitely add it,

So started Carlos Ruiz Zafon's THE PRISONER OF HEAVEN, which is more of a direct sequel to SHADOW OF THE WIND (than the 2nd, darker book in the series THE ANGEL'S GAME which was more of a prequel) as this one concerns the characters from SHADOW (Daniel Sempere, Fermín Romero De Torres, Bernarda, Bea, Palacio ect.) a mere 2 years after the events of the end of SHADOW and already things have already begun to get mysterious again, this time concerning Fermín's hidden past (which was only mentioned in passing in the first book). So far this book is like coming home to a warm blanket and a cup of hot chocolate. I'm already sunk right back into the story and at only 50 pages in Fermín has already asked Daniel if he wonders about the location of Julian Carax...and of course that sets everyone wondering about Penelope again...so above and beyond the mystery being dealt with here, there are also tentative and direct links to SHADOW's mystery which will make any fan of the first book smile.

So far, I'm totally and utterly engrossed. Though I knew I would be since SHADOW is my fave book of all time ever.

Dresden is (and since Butcher sometimes uses Dresden as a stand-in for his own pop culture quips, yes, Butcher loves Star Wars).

And for good measure, Star Trek, Indiana Jones, various faerie tales, horror movies and action movies. And he works them all in with near religious fantacism and awesome.

Just finishing bk 1 of John Ringo's mil-sf THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS series. Sometimes a good old fashioned 'soldiers shoot aliens a lot' book is just what i needed.

Am stalled on Farrow's ICE LAKE. Soul-less phamaceutical companies trying to cover up illegal drug experiments just isn't as cool when the drugs don't turn anyone into vampires or something.

Over halfway through PRISONER OF HEAVEN now (still really excellent! Zafon really does Gothic stories right.) and just a heads up to SHADOW OF THE WIND fans, it mainly deals with the characters from that book, but now it is also dealing with characters from THE ANGEL'S GAME as well, so while I don't think you NEED to have read THE ANGEL'S GAME before this, it will surely enhance your experience. As it stands I am already impressed with the forethought Zafon had for these characters. Amazing!

a little nitpick, i would have loved to read the specifics of the Ascension and the fight with Surly,

I myself finished reading Connolly's Bad Men as well as Madeline Miller's The Song of Achilles during this past weekend. I enjoyed Bad Men but it wasn't as creepy as I thought it was going to be; still, it was an interesting supernatural-ish read. As for Achilles, I adored it. I'm not surprised that she won the Orange Prize for new fiction, it's so well written and even though I knew how it was going to end - anyone who's familiar with the Iliad will know the plot - it was so good that I still got all choked up. Anyway! Now I've started a Glen Cook 2 in 1 book : Bleak Seasons and She is the Darkness.

Finished The Soul Mirror by Carol Berg. It's the second of her Collegia Magica books (though please don't be fooled, this isn't just ANOTHER "Hey, look, a magic school. Let's go there." kinda series.) I was going to start Caliban's War after this, but I have to admit that I am in absolute love with this series, so onward to The Daemon Prism!

Started INTERWORLD by Gaiman and Reaves.
For what seems to be intended to be YA, it's pretty catchy. A few pages in and i was right into the story, 50 pages along before i even noticed the time had passed.

A great YA book (with apparently more installments on the way) that I heartily enjoyed. Plus it's pretty strange so it doesn't tromp on many previously known tropes.

I love Murakami and I read almost all of his books, but this one wasn't available in my country, so I had some trouble finding it. I'm at the middle now, and it's definitely my third favorite of his (first and second being Hardboiled Wonderland and Dance Dance Dance).
