I have rarely been this impressed by a novel, let alone a debut. Vellum certainly ranks among the best books of the year -- of any year.

With Vellum, Hal Duncan immediately established himself as one of the most gifted authors out there. With amazing aplomb, this novel takes speculative fiction into uncharted waters. Ambitious, innovative, unique, Vellum is a truly rewarding read. Duncan's talent and imagination defy description. With this debut, Duncan pushes the boundaries of what is considered speculative fiction even further. And in so doing, he defies every label.

Do yourself a favor and read this novel. You won't be disappointed.

As for me, I can't wait to read the sequel, Ink. With such multilayered plotlines, this is the sort of tale one can read again and again, always realizing that there is a panoply of things that slipped past your attention in previous readings. Yes, it is that impressive!

I just finished Kay's new book.. Thought it was very good even if it started of playing a bit too heavily on the young boy grows up to an earth shattering destiny kind of thing..

Before that i read 'the amber wizard' by David Forbes, which had both good and bad sides. Some clichés I don't like, but not everyone are as bothered by that as I am.

Just started the Player of Games by Ian M. Banks

Finished Night of Knives. A good story, fairly well executed, despite the occasional stumble. Esselmont's writing isn't as good as Erikson's, but he might improve with time as Erikson has.

I am currently reading Tom Holt's Snow White and the Seven Samurai. I'm only on page 8 but I can already tell that it is much in the style of Douglas Adams and Eric Idle. Pretty much, a trio of hackers disguised as the three colourblind mice sneak into the Wicked Witch's room and break her magic mirror (it's an old version, Mirrors 3.1, very sensitive) and then all the fairy tales become screwed up. That's all I know so far but it's a really entertaining light read. I'll let you know how it turns out.

I liked AFFC but a lot of people on here didn't. Go into it without any expectations, good or bad, and you will probably enjoy it. Don't be tarred by preconceptions or anything. :)

Finished Royal Flash. Good book, solidly entertaining with great humour throughout.

Now started my re-read of The Prestige by Christopher Priest (soon to be a major motion picture starring Hugh Jackman & Scarlett Johansson!), something I've been promising myself for the past several years. I remember this novel as being simply one of the greatest things I've ever read, some great ideas transmitted through a wonderful writing style. Let's see if I remembered it correctly.

Memory of Ice , I've read this in the same time

By the first wife of Leopold Ritter Von Sacher-Masoch

But Erikson take all my reading time now , and really Leoplold was so ... Aah I love Donatien (le Marquis de Sade) and his Justine is one of my favorite book (amazing) but Sacher-Masoch make me again more uneasy ... Sade gave his name to the sadism and Sacher-Masoch to masochism . Donatien needed giving pain during the thing , and Leopold him , feeling pain . Wanda speak of all he needed : to be spanked , insulted , whipped (and he made several different whips for that) etc and beurk Posted Image

I'm thinking Holt isn't as entertaining as I thought. Though I shall prevail.
I left Holt at home (totally an accident) and so have had to rummage around my mother's for something that appeals to people who are not under the age of ten. Unfortunately I have failed. So far I have read 'Green Eggs And Ham' twice, the 'Adventures of Winnie the Pooh', 'Family Favourites - The Three Billy Goats Gruff and Other Wonderful Tales' twice, 'Disney's Aladdin' and 'Artemis Fowl' which wasn't so bad. Thankfully, my cousin stopped by and while he wasn't looking I removed Matthew Reilly's 'Contest' from his bag. Have read it numerous times before but it's a favourite so I don't mind. Of course, my copy is better as it's signed by the author (who is a really funny and lovely guy). I won't describe what its about 'cos it sounds corny and lame - you need to read it to realise just how good it is. Lots of edge-of-your-seat action.

Already read all of his books. They wouldn't really fall into the highly entertaining category in my own opinion. Guess again????
