Been deviating from SFF with FREEDOM by Jonathan Franzen, which has been somewhere in my stack for a while. Two thumbs up all around.

Finished the 2nd book in the Iron Druid Chronicles: HEXED by Kevin Hearne. Pretty similar to the first one (Hounded). Nice easy read, characters are good fun, and a nice set-up for the next book.

That's good to hear. Reading the first one now and enjoying it. Great easy read with likeable characters and some cool magic and action. I'm really looking forward to HAMMERED if only becuase of the smack that gets talked about Thor being a dick even in the first book...want to see where that goes.

Coincidentally the 4th book which Hearne is finishing up now is called TRICKSTER....and I wonder if that means Loki will be involved. Only time will tell. Fun series though!

About halfway through Reynolds' Zima Blue and other stories; very good. I was expecting more of a Galactic North, Diamond Dogs, Turqouise Days, set of stories, yet none, so far, are set in the Revelation Space universe. And it's great. Every story I've read thus far has been good, if not great. Though I love the Revelation Space universe, I really enjoy when he deviates into something else, different, yet still epic in scope(i.e. House of Suns, Terminal World, Pushing Ice). The man doesn't do subtle (well, some of the stories are semi-subtle), he's a million years in the future, fight for humanity, as the universe turns, galactic scope type o' guy. Good stuff. Next on to Altered Carbon.

After you get through Altered Carbon, Broken Angels and Woken Furies, you can check out Black Man and The Steel Remains. After you're done with Morgan, try reading one of the following three:

Appleseed by John Clute
A Fire in the Sun by George Alec Effinger
The Quantum Thief by Hannu Rajaniemi

They flow well after Morgan and are all one offs (in my opinion).

Added to my "too read" list. Thanks.

Before Zima Blue, I read A Madness of Angels so I'd like to check out that the Midnight Mayor also but my library doesn't appear to carry it right now. Usually, I jump from sci fi to fantasy every other book or series of books so I'll throw The Long Price Quartet in there somewhere. And I'm itching to read Gormenghast.
Always reading Steven Erikson, China Mieville, Neil Gaiman, Terry Pratchett, Dan Simmons, Alastair Reynolds, Joe Abercrombie, and Christopher Moore.

...and so it begins. The Alera-jones.

I think you will find that ACADEMS is a much different book to its predecessor, in a really good way.

Started Zafon's The Shadow of the Wind the other night. Good stuff so far.

Friday night, I tore through the first 2/3s of Terry Moore's Echo comic series (I have the first 4 graphic novels, collecting the first 20 out of 30 issues) and I was blown away. It is just absolutely phenomenal.
"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

I loved that book - think it was my favourite that I read last year.

Now reading The Man in the High Castle by Philip K. Dick.

Until I can get to the store after work to grab Dresdencrack I am re-reading sections of HEROES DIE, because after I finish GHOST STORY I plan on finally reading the second Caine book (sadly only on eBook as finding that shit in a physical format is tough)

A third of the way into Small Favor, and this easily has the best first third in the series so far. So many players involved.

Just finished GHOST STORY and it was pretty enjoyable. Not quite as awesome as some of the previous entries, but a great set up for wherever the next book goes.

Next up, either THE WISE MAN'S FEAR by Rothfuss, or SURFACE DETAIL by Iain M. Banks. Will toss a coin I think.

Finished _The Midnight Mayor_ last night. Excellent stuff, with a genuinely scary villain, and lots of development potential for urban sorceror Matthew Swift, whose blood burns blue with electric life. Really enjoying this series.
It is perfectly monstrous the way people go about nowadays saying things against one, behind one's back, that are absolutely and entirely true.

Just finished The Bonehunters by Steven Erikson and it was awesome! The first half was was the best part of this series so far - not that the second half wasn't great too - on to Reaper's Gale.

Finished Preludes and Nocturnes and Doll's House, the first two collected volumes of The Sandman . I have no idea why I didn't start it way before! You know, at first I dreaded it wouldn't live to the hype, what with it being acclaimed as the best comic series ever. I should have known better.

Preludes and Nocturnes was good. Highlights were Dee's very disturbing storyline( albeit I was a bit outraged at the ending. After all this guy did things that made the Joker look like a saint) and the last story with Death which was just perfect.

Doll's House is,simply put, exceptional. From beginning to end. Hell, even the "what has come before" section is great!

Neil Gaiman is a genius.
