I'll buy pretty much anything by Glen Cook and this really paid off when I found me a copy of 'The Tower of Fear', a tale of machinations and resurrections in an occupied city under enemy rule. It's a little dry in places, and I thought the ending was rushed, but it's well worth a look if you're a fan. Cook is doing what he does best. A full review is over Here.
I've got 'Toll the Hounds' on the go right now plus a couple of other books that are a little easier to read on the train...

Just finished Carlos Ruiz Zafon's The Shadow of the Wind and I'm speechless. Simply put, this is one of the very best books I have ever read in my life!

Cryptonomicon is pure genius. I love that book. Joseph Heller plus the good part of Tom Clancy plus something new and unique. Of course, you willl then have to read the Baroque Cycle, which is not as good but still amazing. Everyone who considers themself a fan of books should read this one. I LOVE THIS BOOK.

Heavy words about the Zafon book, Pat. You have me intrigued, I'll add it to my wish list. Fantasy?

I'm reading this book called Toll the Hounds by some unknown author...I think his name is Steve Erikson...you guys should try him out...pretty solid.

Currently reading, UNTIED KINGDOM by James Lovegrove. Only a few chapters in so it's hard to tell whether it'll be any good or not.

Also waiting for a certain book to make it this far south.

OK- I'm 300+ pages into Clive Barker's Imajica. While I find it very interesting and well written, I am beginning to skim (never a good sign). I am feeling the weight of TMI and TMW (too much information, too many words)*.

Should I persevere? Can I reap the gems just skimming? Help!

*NOTE: I NEVER do this with Erikson. I soak up every detail.

Just finished reading Naomi Novik's 'Victory of Eagles' which turned out to be a real departure from the 'go to a new country and meet foreign dragons' approach which has been typical of the last few books. Guerilla warfare with dragons = cool! I'm not so sure about the ending though, it looks like Naomi could be back to her old tricks in the next book, I hope not... My full review is over Here.
The missus is away this week so I'm going to use the time to have a real stab at finishing 'Toll the Hounds' amongst others...
