Currently reading GG Kay's Lord of Emperors. I've had it on my desk for over a year now and refused to read it because I wanted to refresh my memory by re-reading Sailing to Sarantium first. I could never find StS again, so I finally caved in and... this book is superb! GGK just gets better and better. This man outshines just about every author I've ever read (exceptions being Banks, Erikson, Adams and LeGuin)

Which reminds me, I read the last book of Earthsea recently as well - The Lost Wind(?) or something like that. A fantastic conclusion to the series (if it is a conclusion given LeGuin's propensity for adding another story every decade or so...)

And that's about it for me, things have been a little hectic here with the moving of the house and stuff, so all my books are in boxes and I quite possibly might not be able to buy more as I think I'm broke... again

Finished Interface by Neal Stephenson. That's a 7 out of 7 'great ****ing book' score. Now I have to track down the last one to see if he can make it 8/8 (or wait a few months for 8/9),

Now reading The DaVinci Code which is one hyped book so I have to read it (either to agree wholeheartedly when I like it or to criticize the corrupting influence of todays media/all-round ubercommerciality and lecture the fans with the books/Brown's shortcomings if I don't Posted Image).

And for uni I just began The Rise and Fall of the Great Powers which I like very much this far.

I haven't read any of his non-sci-fi stuff, so I don't know about that. In his sci-fi it's not too noticeable. At least, I didn't think so. Maybe I'm wrong... it's happened once before.

@Pale - alright, thanks. I guess I need to go buy two more books Posted Image Posted Image Still good because I've heard so many good things about them

But...is Absolution Gap a stand-alone novel or is it part of the same series? Or is it only set in the same time/space/background?

@Duiker. If you like W. Golding try his best book "The Inheritors", about the arrival of man into Neandethal territory.

Reading another short story, "Giliad" by Gregory Feeley . An odd combination of SF, and the ancient myths of Gilgamesh and the Iliad.

If you are reading Harry Potter, Bryjar, do not watch the films, for they do suck mightily. The books are pretty good though.
As soon as I can get home for Christmas I will start on the reread of MBotF, unless I have nearly finished Otherland of course.

Finished Stranger in Strange Land by Posted ImageHeinlein Posted Image. Stunning book, stunning writer.

Now I'm tossed between Mordant's Need by S.R. Donaldson (loved the Gap, hated Covenant) or re-reading Dune (read it once, 8 years ago, in a translation Posted Image)

Anne Rice - The Vampire Lestat

Always thought Lestat was a bit of an arsehole in Interview With the Vampire, now I'm beginning to see why he's everyone's favourite vampie

Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell. An amazing work of fiction, very ingeious and absolutely beautifully written. It blends historical fiction, thriller and sci-fi in a way I haven't seen before. I urge anyone who is in search of truly original works to pick up this one (it's out in mmpb). I'm liking it so much I'm gonna get Mitchell's debut asap.

And besides Cloud Atlas I'm reading Gravity's Rainbow on and off sorta. Damn that books is HARD.
