Currently reading The Tyrant Baru Comorant and not really feeling it, book two was a slog and while certain stuff is awesome the main character decidedly hasn't been for a while. Also finished up Dead Lies Dreaming which I found fun but not much substance to it, but there is potential to build on which is good since it seems to be planned as a trilogy.

Stubbornness is a curse. I’m burnt out with Malazan.

DoD was brutal but BnB is one upping it.

Must say BnB is my least want to re-read ever Malazan inching out tCG by a small margin and I really should re-read tCG sometimes since I its the only one in the main sequence I've only read once.

I am sort of regretting my continued commitment to the reread as its pushing put reading other things... but I'm too stubborn. Its going to be me reading them all on my own by the end.

The only consistent other reading I do now is earbook while doing life. On Cibola Burns now, which is feeling a bit formulaic in Corey's approach to these books... I will finish this one but I'm not sure yet whether I'll continue if this feeling bears out across the whole book.

Return of the Crimson Guard is my least favorite Malazan book. Blood and Bone is surprisingly good.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

I'm on a female horror author binge at the moment but I'm running out of titles (recommendations?).

About to start reading The Hunger by Alma Katsu.

MEXICAN GOTHIC by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

BENEATH THE RISING by Premee Mohamed

Anything by Caitlin R. Kieran; I can recommend:
* THE RED TREE
* SILK and its sequel A MURDER OF ANGELS
* THRESHOLD, LOW RED MOON, and DAUGHTER OF HOUNDS

"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

This is my current pile - I've read The Grip of It, Mouthful of Birds, PET, and The House on the Lake since I took this picture.

I'm reading The Hunger at the moment and plan on reading Mexican Gothic next.

I don't know Mohamed or Kieran so I'll definitely look them up, thanks Salt Man Z!

Finished up the The Tyrant Baru Cormorant and while there are aspects that are brilliant and the writing only really gets better along the way, this is one of those series where I wonder didn't this dude want to write a master thesis rather than a fantasy novel. I was hoping for more nuance and perspective along the way but I'm not going to go into details it would sound like they are worse books than they actually are.

Thinking of starting up Aching God but maybe I should take something less serious.

Finally reading Gideon the Ninth and, well, it's fine. Unless it picks up tremendously in the second half I'm probably not gonna be in the love it crowd but it is good daft fun.

74 pgs into Outlander 5. Slowest most boring entry of the series. All this time I doubt even 2 hours have passed in the story. Oh boy I’m gonna be in trouble with this 1400+pg beast if she don’t hurry up and get to the juicy shit.

Book 6 has entered the chat

Haha. They only get more sloggy from here. The initial trilogy is the best of the lot. I barely made it through Book 6. I have book 7 but I'm pondering just sticking to the TV show now.

Finished Gideon the Ninth. It did pick up and I did like it and will read the sequel, but I didn't love it as much as you lot.

Onto either the new Abercrombie, the second book by Evan Winter who did The Rage of Dragons the African-inspired revenge epic from last year, or Christele Dabos' third Mirror Visitor book, which those who pay attention to my ramblings might remember I loved the first two.
I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.

Finished up The Silk Roads by Peter Frankopan last night.

Very interesting, and very good at presenting the ruthless and purely commercial decisions that have driven an awful lot of European and world history in relation to the middle East.

The last 30 years of shit there are entirely of the British and Americans making, I mean I knew that but I didn't KNOW that

Haven't read a standard Western fantasy (still halfway through Lord Foul) since March, but I've been balls deep in light novels instead.

86 raises some interesting themes. Kind of like if Israel was America and built the wall, then forced the Palestinians to fight the Arab nations for them.

Finished Dead Lies Dreaming by Charles Stross. It's the 10th or 11th book in the Laundry Files. Great story as always and I enjoyed the departure from the main Laundry connected storyline.

Supposedly there'll be two more in this side series and I'm all aboard.

Also read The Haunting of Tram Car 015 by P. Djčlí Clark. Great little detective ghost hunting novella.

Clark is building a great new fantasy world set in an early 1900s Clock Punk Cairo. His first full length novel, A Master of Djinn, is coming out next may. Already pre-ordered it.

Picked up Kim Stanley Robinson's The Ministry For The Future on the spur of the moment and started it today.
Looks interesting and seems to be a slightly faster pace and more "big picture" (?) or at least less detailed or intimate than other stuff like the Mars Trilogy for example.
It's about climate change etc and the opening scene is ... terrible. Not as in badly written, just quite a punch in the face.

Reminds me a bit so far of the start of The Years of Rice and Salt. Without the centuries-spanning timeline though of course.

Initilly strikes a tone which I would describe as strangely optimistic (despite the opening), but we'll see how that goes.
