Yeah, I'm sceptical of that claim.

At any rate Mez, the trilogy is amazing. Easily some of the best sci fi/Fantasy I've read in years

Currently reading the Reluctant Swordsman by Dave Duncan throwing in an unknown among some very good books I've read recently, it is pretty entertaining for a fairly simple story,

I remember that, read it back in High School...which is longer ago than I care to admit. As far as portal fantasy goes, it's middle of the pack. I liked the series, but I preferred Kay's Fionavar Tapestry, Rosenberg's The Guardians of the Flame, and Donaldson's Chronicles of Thomas Covenant.
“The others followed, and found themselves in a small, stuffy basement, which would have been damp, smelly, close, and dark, were it not, in fact, well-lit, which prevented it from being dark.”

A lot of people here seemed to really enjoy it. I haven't tried because I disliked 100,000 kingdoms so much.

In other news I finally started War of the Wolf, book 11 of the Uthred saga.

I've got WotW to read after I finish Deadhouse Gates, how is it so far?

This is a great little series, and Duncan is a treasure of Canadian fantasy lit (he died earlier this year from a fall, so grab his books while you can)! Not reinventing the wheel, but Duncan writes good old classical fantasy.

I can't wait to devour it, wonder how many more books there will be, gone way over the estimated 7-8 books...

Yeah surely Uthred is getting too old now (note I haven't read the last three books so I may have inadvertently spoiled something for myself here haha)

Finished three books:
The Haunting of Hill House - really not that scary, more a psychological study than true horror. It had its moments, but overall disappointing.

Cradle by Will Wight - exciting little book, lots of promise, I think I am going to like this action packed series.

The Healers Road - slice of life fantasy - good, but could be far better, needed more resolution.

Now starting Middlegame by Seanan McGuire and Children of Ruin by Adrian Tchaikovsky.

Finally getting around to reading the second collected tales of Bauchelain and Korbal Broach. Will I need to read the first three again or are they disconnected enough that it won't matter?

Just finished Leviathan Wakes in one day. Fuck me, it was good. Long Price was pretty good, but this is amazing.

573 pages in a day?! How many hours are there in the day in your part of the world?

Plus 8 hours of work. I read crazy fast. Also, very little sleep and very much coffee for me.

Might not hurt to reread "Lees of Laughters' End" again, since "Wurms of Blearmouth" takes place soon after, chronologically.
"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

Well I just started Wurms but I might revisit Lees before getting too far into it.

Definitely forgot about the penis demons though.

Finished EMPIRE OF GRASS....man, Williams really upped the ante in this one, and now I'm curious how it will all end...the middle of the book is a TAD slow (heyoooo!)...but otherwise this was better than even THE WITCHWOOD CROWN. And now the long wait for THE NAVIGATOR'S CHILDREN.

Started on Melanie Rawn's EXILE: THE RUINS OF AMBRAI, which is pretty interesting right off the bat because it's a matriarchal society. Only a few chapters in, but it's VERY well written so far.

Shoot, when I started reading it last week, I had assumed the Osten Ard follow-up trilogy was completed. Witchwood Crown was published in 2017, then Empire of Grass in 2019. I guess we'll be waiting until 2021 for Navigator's Children.

Also, QT, are you aware that book 3 in Rawn's trilogy has been unpublished and unseen for over 20 years? You're in for a disappointing ending to that series.

There will also be another novella (like THE HEART OF WHAT WAS LOST) after Book 3 (THE SHADOW OF THINGS TO COME), so probably 2022 for it to all be complete.

I nabbed the paperback at the used book store and didn't know till I got home that it's been unfinished for 20 years...as long as she doesn't pass away though, then I can hope she comes back to finish it. Any word on why the wait?
