Trying to get into the third book of the Broken Earth trilogy but its a slog at the start and the other books weren't great, they were okay. Once I start though I have to finish even though I don't care about any character.
Apt is the only one who reads this. Apt is nice.

I haven't read anything in about 2 weeks. I like Liars Key, but there always seems to be something else to do instead of reading. I may try another book.

You really can't go wrong with either of those choices. Of the two, I'd recommend Player of Games though because of it's stand-alone episodic nature. Senlin Ascends is very good but occasionally suffers from obvious book-1 syndrome.

I loved the trilo, but i suspect that if you didn't like 1 and 2, 3 isn't exactly going to rock your world, especially if you're finding the start a slog because that portion of the narrative carries through most of the book.

I've nearly finished the earbook of IMAJICA and I have the Broken Earth trilogy up next I'm looking forward to it. Hope the earbook version is good!

The BROKEN EARTH earbook narrator is great.
I mentioned elsepost she shifts her voice so that inner monologue and speaking voice for the same person can be different, which takes some getting used to but is actually very clever.

How do/did you like IMAJICA?

I'm waiting to finish til I can sort my thoughts out but it's a mixed bag tbh. Fascinating concept but I'm not sure I'm enjoying it all that much. More thoughts once it's over - about 3 hours to go.

That was my thinking, too. Originally I was going to leave The Books of Babel series until The Hod King was released, believing that to be the last book. But now I see it's a tetralogy, so I might be waiting longer than I care to. I'll probably go with Player of Games, though, just because I've been meaning to read more Banks for a long time.

Speaking of Jemisin, her new short story collection is on the way! I bought it in deadtree cuz the cover is a real standout, and it's easily jumping to the top of my TRP.

Right now I'm reading The Boy on the Bridge by M. Carey. 1/3 in and so far no real action, just groundwork being laid. Not as tense or mysterious right off the bat as Girl (naturally), but it's interesting and I have lotsa faith.

For what tis worth, 1 and 2 are fairly self-contained.

I myself did not love SENLIN... it just barely held my interest on the strength of the cool setting and bits of the story.

Otoh, i though ARM was great.

I have not read much Banks, but based on what i've read i'm comfortable saying those are two very different authors... you want epic sf, go Banks. You want fun steampunk/fantasy, Bancroft.

Still can't bring myself to pick up a book. It's gotten to a stage now where I feel like I'm not going to be describing myself as a reader soon.

Finished up the Tower of Living and Dying and while it bugs me occationally and is uncomfortable now and then it really is very good, a great deal stronger then the first book for certain. I would however guess that the kinda "stream of counciousness" parts of it will likely put off a lot of readers occationally it really reads more like a dreamsequence then a coherent narritive.

Now for something comfortable with a bit less random bodily fluids/parts and rot/disease/filth everywhere, thinking a re-read of the Quantum Thief and likely the entire series, don't think I ever re-read the Causal Angel.

Finished "Dragon Hunters".
Good world-building and potential plot developments in the end, but the convergence in Part 4 felt messy and rushed. At the same time, pacing in early parts of the book was a bit slow. Feels like a 4/5.

Next I'll be starting "City of Ice". If I feel that's grabbing me, I'll probably grab the sequel on the weekend.

Comics and or Non-ficiton books of interest usually push me out of a slump.

Just finished REJOICE! A KNIFE TO THE HEART.

More in the ded-thread, but yeeah, this was some quality sf. It's a rare book that has such a relatively low level of action to dialogue yet utterly holds my attention.
It's not really 'hard' sf in the classic sense, since the science at work is sociological / societal, but huge kudos to SE for taking that on and keeping it interesting and the pace solid throughout.

Next up, already 8 chapters into Aaronovich's next Peter Grant book, LIES SLEEPING... i missed these characters and it's so good to have them back. Also liking the progress in the 'world' generally. Aaronovich does not let things sit stable too long.
There was at one minor/inconsequential easter egg ref to the graphic novel series that reminds me i'm really overdue to get those.

Looking forward to your take on Rejoice! and Lies Sleeping.
