90 pages into Gardens. To quantify, the lesser book I was reading before took me over two weeks to get this far into...

I finished OST and I enjoyed it so much more this time round! Tahir didn't like it the first time I read it but for some reason it felt different this time. Going to read DOD then TCG and then finish the ICE novels.

Contrary to my earlier post about Anthony Ryan's new series, I ended up buying The Waking Fire, read half of it and went out and bought the other two books.
Finished them now and it is a really solid series. Captivating setting, story and characters. The three leads are all solid and they all bring something different/unique to the story.
He has a good way of writing, ending the chapters on a cliffhanger that makes you desparate to get back to that character.
Definitely a recommend.

Nah, I like reading about societies facing fundamental changes-

Somewhat of a topic swerve, but are you familiar with Patrick Wyman and his podcast Tides of History? Neither reading nor fiction, of course, but it's a series he does breaking down moments in history about precisely that - times when civilisations have faced fundamental changes and turning points in the course they take. I don't listen that often coz I just don't listen to podcasts that often, but it's really good.

I'll look into it, though generally I'm terrible with absorbing audio info.

I'll try reading "The Worm Ouroboros"

Enjoy! That one was a tough go for me (at times), though in the end I'm really glad I read it.

Yeah, the style can be difficult. Read the first couple of chapters, and then for the last 2 days I've been either too busy or tired to get into the right headspace to try to parse more of pseudo-archaic English.
Today should be a better day for that.

WE ARE THE KNIGHTS OF DROS DELNOCH!

Aside - a nurse and I had a call and response of that and "WE BRING DEATH TO THE NADIR" after my operation, because I was reading Legend. The rest of the ward was very confused!

Haha, it wasn't shouting and it was mostly through fits of giggles. I just can't type either phrase in less than block capitals - it feels wrong!

Finished Patrick Weekes' Palace Job, its a fun read, but best not taken too seriously.

Just Finished that, went directly into the sequel PROPHECY CON, and now halfway into the third/finale book, THE PALADIN CAPER.
These are frikkin great fun. Fantasy candy that goes a little deep and dark now and then.
Like an epic fantasy Ocean’s 11 written by Chris Wooding with Jim Butcher taking over for the action scenes. If you liked the KETTY JAY series, or the caper story in SKIN GAME, you will likely love this series.
Excellent earbook narrator too, really nails the characters voices.
These are stupid cheap on Amazon, you have no excuses.

That was damn entertaining! The last two sentences of the epilogue brought a tear to my eye.

Are any of the other Drenai books worth reading?

I have only ever read the first book, so good to hear that the series holds up. Will pick up the other two later.

ALL of them. Some are more epic, less Gemmel formulaic, but all are pretty great.

I'd agree with Abyss, they're all worth a read. Personal favourites after Legend would be White Wolf, Waylander and Winter Warriors. You'll find Druss appears in a good proportion of the books.

Weighing in on Gemmell.

Personal I would follow Legend with Waylander.

After that pick and choose, as said, some are formulaic but there's none that aren't at least good.

If you haven't read his Troy trilogy go do it

Me too. He kept mentioning how great it was and when I read it I was blown away. My fave Gemmell by FAR.

I read Legend about 25 years ago, what a fun read. Half the time, when I see an Orange, I think about Druss mentoring Orrin.
