Decided to test Sasha by Joel Shepherd after enjoying his mil-sf stuff of the normal pretty harmless entertaining sort, this seems more like complicated political fantasy with a lot of religious elements but I'm not that far in yet and it seems like a slow start.

I actually finished a book today - The Last Namsara - not bad at all, but I did not enjoy it for some reason/
I need something like Dresden or Kate Daniels - action-packed, snarky and sharp.

I absolutely adore it - Zoo Day is such an awesome story, also Jury Duty and that small story about Harry training junior mages. I did not much care for the Molly or Marcone ones though.

Have you read Nick Harkaway? The Gone-Away World in particular is made for moments like this. It's not a series, nor quite urban fantasy, but it's a bucketful of joy.

Quite good, at times great, ten book series. Does some fun original stuff w vamps, weres, necromancers, etc.Killer action, usually fast paced.

Nearly done with it by now and I enjoyed it, its low-fantasy a few elves the only fantasy element and the focus is on politics and military matters. The country where all the action happens well realized with politics, culture and religion playing into each other and not a carbon copy from history even if there are parallells to be drawn. The main character who we spend most of the time with is capable and has a low threshold for taking shit which I personally enjoy, but there is a bit of chosen one to her which might make some annoyed. Last but not least I think Shepherd is good with the action sequences and especially swordwork in duels something which rarely engage me normally, in the Grey Bastards for example which I read before this one I skimmed some fights even if I enjoyed the book.

Not a must read but I'll probably go on to the next book sometimes soon. However don't put it down before the first fighting and duel the begining is a bit infodumpy and I was doubtful for a while.

It's my first re-read after a few years.... have read everything except the short story compilations. I just forgot how addictive the series is once started!

I picked up N.K. Jemisin's Fifth Season two days ago and can't seem to put it down. Very, very intriguing. Refreshing cast of protagonists (almost all of them are black women), plus a fascinating take on "magic".
