I've recently read Legend and I did think some of the dialogue seemed a bit odd/unnatural, has anyone else found that? Maybe its just because its quite old now. Having said that, the Characters are fantastic, especially for such a short book. Will be moving onto King Beyond the Gate shortly.

Also just got onto Dresden book 9 and absolutely loving it! Really takes off from about book 5.

I've also just been on amazon marketplace and bought about 8 new books from reading the last few pages on this thread... despite the fact i have about 30 unread books at home and 10 on the Kindle.....

If they aren't relatively new releases always go for used on Amazon, you just pay postage (usually $3) as most are listed for a cent

I've been finding most of my used books via www.bookfinder4u.com. It's a meta-search engine for books (used and new) that will tell you the cheapest place to buy them (hint: it usually ends up being abebooks).

No affiliation, it's just useful.

Threw in The Library at Mount Char between my Troy read, I've read a lot of good books this year but it might be the best one so far. Might even be worth a re-read to see if the plot holds as well when you are aware of how it is supposed to go.

On to Fall of Kings which is likely to be pretty good too.

Oh my. Finished TTH. Such a stunning book and I say that with it sat nestled in a series of stunning books. It is definitely my favourite, I am emotionally drained and gobsmacked all over again.

Not at home at the moment so won't be starting on OST til I get back. Have my Kindle so might find a quick palate cleanser on there to keep me occupied...

Home a bit earlier than expected so I'm moving onto OST. At this point this is the only Malazan book I didn't actually enjoy (FoL was close in fairness) and I'm hoping it holds up well on reread.

On reread, I thought there was a lot to like about it, and a few glaring issues.

Yeah I'm trying to keep an open mind. I love the Seguleh so much and I'm not sure ICE did them justice. We'll see.

Currently re-reading and I'm half way through Bonehunters. Considering a break for something lighter.

I've never been able to go back and re-read ICE yet. I felt, Night of Knives aside, I was reading them for the sake of completion and not because I really enjoyed them.

I really like most of ICE's works. Stoneweilder especially is an excellent novel but OST just didn't flow well for me...

I've only finished two ICE rereads: NoK I found much improved the second time around. RotCG I had to force myself to finish. SW (which I think of as my favorite in that series) I set aside about halfway through and never got back to.
"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

Agreed. I enjoyed the moment - better late than never - but it should have happened earlier.

Finished "Siege Perilous", the last novel in the ForeWorld cycle.

It was decent. This wasn't the main Albigensian crusade, but the siege of Montsegur, and the end of the Cathars, so nothing overly epic, but still well enough written. I did get some closure about the backstory behind " The Mongoliad" and "Katabasis" , so it certainly served its purpose.

Next in commute I'll probably continue the completionist kick with the last Milkweed book.

At home, "Ink" is painfully slow due to overall lack of time being spent at home. I think I read maybe like 3 chapters so far, but I still intend to persevere.

The moment toward the end of A Blade of Black Steel when the Immaculate queen
Spoiler
is so badass.

This entire series is just one moment of badassery after another. If you like asses and them both perpetrating bad things and having bad things perpetrated upon them, then this series is for you.

(Seriously, the author does seem to have a thing for asses — every definition of them)

The way Marshall takes the series after that is unexpected and terrific. So much butts and comedy, yet big action scenes.

The direction of the scene I mentioned really woke me up itself! I was expecting it to go the traditional fantasy route.

I ordered book 3 today.

Book 3 is AWESOME

Given the general acclaim for this series, I may need to revise my initial impression and actually reread the first book.
