30 something chapters into Black Prism and Weeks dropped a plot twist.

Finished Charles Sross' The Delirium Brief a few weeks ago. After my complaining many pages back, I feel like I should report back and say that Stross completely turned the book around for me in the second half. While I still think the premise was far fetched, there is a definite pay off in the end. The book went from most disappointing to perhaps the most satisfying and definitely surprising in the Laundry series. I love how bad Stross allows things to get in the last few books.

For the past week or more I've been making my way through Maark's "Incarnate" book. Fun to see a forum member actually publishing his own work. I won't lie, it's not quite my cup of tea, the pacing is too slow and the setting too safe in terms of crafting a fantasy world but Maark can write. I'm around 40% in now and the book is picking up steam. The stakes are rising.

I've also begun to read Richard Kadrey's "Sandman Slim" on a whim. I saw the second book in what I presume (with out researching anything) is a running series of books and loved the blurb on the back. It's urban fantasy about some thug bad boy magician who got double crossed by his friends and sent to hell. 11 years later he's back and looking for revenge, cue lots of baddassery, magic, demons, guns, etc.

This book hits the ground running. I cracked the book open and suddenly I'd read 50 pages. It's written from the first person perspective and Kadrey's writing reminds me of Butcher's Harry Dresden, if Dresden was more of a thug and a lot more durable.

Done with The Stone Sky. A solid end to the series, but not as much of a shock to the system as the first one was (which may be down to familiarity with the premise).

Reading Altered Carbon again now, and it's actually holding up surprisingly well for a book that's 16 years old. I find myself rather surprised to note that I actually have a signed (and dated! - 06/02/2002) first print, that's still in fairly good nick - I've never met Richard, so I presume he signed a job lot back then. I suspect it's worth more than a few pennies these days, but I shan't be parting with it.

I'm also reading Andy Weir's Artemis which tbh is not particularly good. They do say that everyone has one book in them, and it appears so far that, unfortunately, The Martian might have been his.

Finished Cook & Thompson's Elven Exile Dragonlance opener SANCTUARY. Great stuff actually, and has a bit of a different feel from the older Dragonlance fare. It pushes the world open more. I liked it. The other two volumes are in my To Read pile, so I'll get to them this year at some point.

Started Abercrombie's HALF A KING. Only about 10% into it...but damn this is fun!

Also, I LOVE that map of the Shattered Sea.

I really enjoyed that trilo. Its a really solid story with solid Abercrombie fight action and fun twists. Read back-to-back-to-back you can really appreciate the character arcs.



Still reading/listening to OATHBRINGER. At the end of part 3. Shit just got ugly for the good guys.

With that going on both eyes and ears, not much else on the go.

That's the "Void" books... they're a sequel to the original duology that's set I think like a century earlier.
