...Started Abercrombie's HALF A KING. Only about 10% into it...but damn this is fun!

Also, I LOVE that map of the Shattered Sea.

I really enjoyed that trilo. Its a really solid story with solid Abercrombie fight action and fun twists. Read back-to-back-to-back you can really appreciate the character arcs.

Yeah, it's even gone from "damned fun" to "Wow, even better" in the course of 10% to 20% when

Spoiler

REALLY enjoying this, and will ask for the other two volumes for my birthday so as to not break my "no books bought in 2018 rule"...but yeah, I'm in like flynn for the trilogy now for sure. Not that it was a question, I love me some Abercrombie.

Still on Deadhouse Landing. Finding it a bit of a slog. It's just... something is missing.

Your soul, perhaps?

One who is able to enjoy Oatsbinger is in no position to comment on missing souls.

Don't you have someone getting anally fucked to death with his own frozen, dismembered dick to go write about?

I hope Maark makes it big one day, and his comments on Sanderson are exposed and he has to awkwardly explain them to the fans.

I suspect Maark's fans may not overlap with Sanderson's much. It's a hunch.

I look forward to the day when they're both on a convention panel and someone raises this.

I just read that frozen dick rape scene in Maarks book. I don't think I'd wish that one on anyone.

Maark has ventured into that part of fantasy writing I tend to associate with Terry Goodkind. Not sure if that is a bad or impressive.

Not even if he gets slapped with a replica frozen dick?

I mean he's obviously a lover, not a fighter:

I'm only 50% into Incarnate so I'm not there yet, but my review is definitely going to be "It's Mistborn but with dicks instead of metals."

Man, I'm sometimes astounded by just how unfashionably nerdy authors can look.

Almost finished listening to What the Hell did I just Read, book 3 of John Dies at the End, by David Wong. While fun, it's not as good as the previous two. Also started listening to Elysium Fire and re-listening to Library at Mount Char.

Read EarthCore last week, probably ranks as one of the worst books I've ever read. Absurdly unbelievable.
Randomly picked up Hammers on Bone by Cassandra Khaw. It's a noir, horror, detective story. Beautifully written. Some of the best prose I've seen since Felix Gilman. Immediately bought book 2. They're short reads, 100 pages or so. Only $4 on kindle. I recommend it to anyone that likes good books.

You would prefer novels written by the sort of fashionable shallow twits who attend the Met Gala instead?

EDIT: the fact that it has NYT bestseller written on the cover is not a exactly ringing endorsement of the human race.

Being able to mix and match clothing is not exactly what I would call shallow. More a question of taste and social intelligence. I mean besides cowboy hats looking awful on most people, who wears a hat inside?

GMFDI, I responded to every one of those quotes and the board said 'nah'.

To address then:

Spoiler
deserved the frozen dick bit, but generally that stuff peters out after book 1 ends. Book 2 just has Kaenna being a little shit for the most part.

I'm fine with Mistborn comparisons, it was a big old influence on me. Though the comment about fan demographic overlap is quite spot on. I'm more for the Lawrence/Bakker/Lynch market myself.

I'm a grappler so I'll fight him with locking cuddles. Or challenge him to Yu-Gi-Oh and test whether he has the Heart of the Cards, Sando Kaiba! Or anime fighting games. If we pick BlazBlue I bet he's a douche and picks fucking Nine or some shit. Reeeeeeeeeeeeee.

Why would you intentionally write a main character as being annoying. Currently I absolutely loath andreas in the first book. I'd rather reread the mhybe chapters in MOI.

*Anderas

And it's mainly due to the 'takes a level in badass' trope being invoked quite heavily with him.

Finished up The Infernal Battalion and it was very decent about what I expected of Wexler. I was afraid the demon beast thingy would destroy the series in a hurry but no Wexler handles it very well.

Going for Warmaster next I think.

Simeon coming in with the SKO right outta nowhere. Oooft. JCG tell me you can expect between £80k and £100k for that burn.

I'm actually struggling with Deadhouse Landing now. Just gone through the trial and it just didn't really feel like it was going anywhere. I'm at risk of DNFing it.
