Finished White Sand. I'm not sure why we got the same story in comic and then txt. I enjoyed the text a lot. You can def see the beginning of the Push and Pull Mistborn powers but with Sand instead. Hope those 3 bks will come one day cause Taladin sounds really cool. Onto Silence now.

I really needed this break from Safehold 6 to recharge.

BK how intricately is Secret History is connected to the other Mistborn books? I am not rereading Mistborn just to make sense of one novella

I'm not BK, but I guess it just depends on how well you remember the trilogy. There were a lot of cool "Ah-ha!" moments that you would miss if you don't remember anything. I finished the trilogy in 2010 and I didn't feel like I missed anything in Secret History, but you read a lot more books than I do.

It links up very well from 1-3 I found as I skimmed through. I don't think you would need to reread at all. The story is it's own and stays sep for the most part during the events of 1-2. 3 is much more directly linked but you could look up a summary of 3 and be fine. Read this! The Cosmere stuff is cool.

Guess I will have to read and find out

So I've made it a goal to try to read a little to my daughter at least three nights a week since she was born. Six months in now, and we've finished the first 2 OZ books. They are weird and have some seriously outdated gender commentary - especially in the second book. Since the last one left a funky taste in my mouth, I've decided to jump to a different series, this time one that really helped draw me to fantasy in the first place. I'm now about seven chapters into Redwall. It honestly feels like coming home.

Add a bonus, my wife is sitting in on the readings and never read the books as a kid. She's ducked into the charm already.

Hey, there are people who haven't read Discworld yet. Save your pity for them.

Finished Tad William's new Osten Ard 0.5 novella THE HEART OF WHAT WAS LOST. It's VERY good, and gives evidence in how he thought to continue the Osten Ard story....in that the majority of this book is through the POV of:

Spoiler

A great book! Short, brutal, and sweet.

Now onto one of my Xmas gift books THE FORGETTING MOON by Brian Lee Durfee. Only about 20 pages into this one (and it's a BEHEMOTH), but so far I'm into it. We will see how that goes.

Hey QT, I just got Stone of Farewell today. Is this novella essential to the series?

I would say once you are done with the original MS&T series, that it is essential. It literally follows on the events at the end of the last series by weeks, and is set (I think ) a good 30ish years before the new series proper, so a chance to set up a new history to help back the new events and characters. Like I feel like some of the people in THE HEART OF WHAT WAS LOST will show up in THE WITCHWOOD CROWN...just 30 years older.

Oh good. Then I will read the Novella later

I got Stone today, and Siege, which is part 1 of To Green Angel Tower, but Storm, the second part won't be delivered till February due to some strange shipping glitch.

I intend to read Stone this month

STONE is good, it's worry's favourite if I recall correctly. And I think it might be BK's least favourite due to it having he longest "underground" sequence in the series yet. LOL

Finished A Plague of Swords last night.

Solid but not the best in the series imo.

Probably start Simon Scarrows latest Eagle offering 'invictus' tonight after the pool game.
Looking forward to it, always enjoy Macro and Cato

Finished Gone with the Wind - moderately entertaining books with some very strange and some rather poor characters.

Probably going to read Ivanhoe next in the Classics challenge

In honor of Richard Adams's recent passing :D I picked up Shardik (my favorite book of all time) on Kindle and am currently reading it for the 12th time.

Same idea here except reading Watership Down , which I've never read before (though have enjoyed Shardik and others). His passing got lost with Carrie Fisher's death but I figured that reading one of his books is a good way to remember him.

Also finishing Felix Castor book 3 Dead Men's Boots in audiobook form. Best one yet, imo. Very disappointed to see that the narrator changes in book 4.

Watership Down is fantastic, and I really do need to read it again. (I've read it twice, but it's been over 13 years since the last time.) That ending makes me cry every time.
"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

Up to chapter 23 in Kushiel's Dart. Now that Phedre is of age, there is a certain amount of phallus mentioning. That being said, there is a lot of intrigue and world building as well. I'm pretty sure I'll finish this book. As for the rest of the series, well I've yet to decide.
“The others followed, and found themselves in a small, stuffy basement, which would have been damp, smelly, close, and dark, were it not, in fact, well-lit, which prevented it from being dark.”

Yah, Stone is my favorite if it's the one with the Wheel, but I liked the whole series.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

I hit pause on THE FORGETTIGN MOON....could not get into it.

And since I was in a Star Wars mood, I read REY'S SURVIVAL GUIDE (which is a kids book, but is canon and has info about the Emperor digging for something during his time on Jakku that was ancient)...and next up I'm reading DARK DISCIPLE by Christie Golden...which is the canon story of Asajj Ventress from unshot scripts for The Clone Wars S7.

I just looked up Forgetting Moon, and I thought it had some potential...

Started Stone of Farewell.

Yeah, it seemed alright...if a little YA...but I just could not get into it. I'll go back to it at some point.

I'm really digging Sixth of Dusk. Very cool stuff though system has no current Shard. 3 planets have humans life with a 4th planet still in the Goldilock Zone. I'm digging the system summaries but one is missing since there's no story: Nathalis(Warbreaker). Would have been nice to just add it in.

Are you gonna read Stone within 24 hrs as well?

Lol, no Bk!Posted Image I want to take this one a bit slower, so far I have read only 60 pages of an 800+ page book.

But you did remind me, I finished Warhost of Vastmark, the third book of the Wars of Light and Shadow. I really really liked it. Merior and Vastmark are basically one book.

Oh and I finished 90% of that book todayPosted Image

I think only Amph has read these books. Its a pity, because once you get through the ornate prose there is a great story under there.
