I'm now over halfway through FoL and it's exhausting but I'm still intrigued enough to keep going. Have been away and busy etc but in reality, for a Malazan book, it just isn't gripping me!

I will keep going regardless.

Just spent 3 hours reading HARRY POTTER AND THE CURSED CHILD by Jack Thorne & JK Rowling in its entirety (it's a script, so it's a fast read) and was fairly blown away. I wasn't sure if they could come up with a solid story for a sequel to the final HP book (this one picks up right afer the original books epilogue, 19 years after the Battle Of Hogwarts and Voldy is defeated), but damned if they didn't pull it off and the leads kids (mainly Albus Severus and Scorpius) are fantastically well realized!

Also halfway through Dan Abnett's HORUS RISING and after an initial confusion hiccup, I'm enjoying it immensly!

It's good if a tad short. I was really worried they would ruin the potterverse coming back to Harry however many years on but this captured the essence of Potter, if you are a fan of the originals I'd pick it up.

As for my own reading update, I am about 80% into Jinni and the Golem - a book with a fascinating premise but a flawed execution, which sees the story lose its way about halfway in.

Also reading, of all things, War and Peace. About 20% in, and its a mixed bag.

The fact that no one knows about Chaos yet...that the Ecclesiarchy (Adeptus Ministorum) hasn't been established to focus the more spiritual natures of the civilization within the Imperium, and it's all "science is all there is, and if you disagree we will come and show you". Like I think the fact that not only does no one KNOW about Chaos, but no one even SUSPECTS its insidiousness, is fascinating. Like when the army who were embedded on 6319 talked of hearing "ghosts" and such and Loken's reaction was "What? You are hearing daemons and spirits? That's against our laws!" so even then they have to dial back their reactions otherwise deal with the Tenth...scary awesome stuff.

Also, I like the idea of the Remembrancers...but do they have an equivalent of them in the 41st millennium too? I'm curious.

Oh, and since the Ecclesiarchy hasn't been established yet, but I assume is coming at some point soon...does that mean I get to see the inception of the Adepta Sororitas and the original battle sisters? Cause that would be awesome!

I've heard tell that I should read the first 5 or so, and that after that I should be picky-choosy by author. So that's my plan.

It kind of blows up you know... from a pretty linear tale of disaffection, corruption and rebellion, then they start focusing on individual primarchs and other characters - so yeah being picky choosy might help. Also they are stretching it out a lot. At one time it was my goal to read it all. but now I am not so sure.

There are some genuinely cool books here - some awesome battle scenes and also some slowburn corruption narratives - that Chaos is still not known or understood makes it quite scary actually.

There's 35 some and maybe 5 duds. Some are genuinely great books (Abnett's especially), while the rest are good summer reads. I don't know how this happened, as the previous WH40k quality control wasn't always great, but the Black Library has done a solid job commissioning and curating these.

Ah, good to know. Thanks for the info guys! I guess if anything, it gives me something to always come back to when I'm in the mood for more WH40k.

I love how he makes it a huge point about how much people hated the cliff-hanger ending of THE WASTE LANDS but then he tops it with this one. I'm really really happy I'm not reading this as it came it fresh, cause I would have been beyond pissed.

I think I'm going to focus on finishing up a couple of series now. First up, THE WHEEL OF OSHEIM.
