Nearly finished The Drawing of Three – if something permanent doesn't happen to Detta Walker I might scream. I've never found a character more hateful to read (not morally, but because the language of her dialogue makes me cringe so much).

It's still keeping me interested and I want to know what happens next and find out more, which is good, but I'm definitely not loving it. There's time I suppose.

The answer to your first statement may annoy you. But yeah, I struggled with that book...and in fact I don't think the DT series is actually for me...I'm hesitant to start the 4th book because the 3rd was only "meh" for me.

I quit after book 5, and 3 was my favorite one.

I wasn't crazy about books 2 and 4 and heard that the last 3 weren't that good. I decided to finish it and I am glad I did. I loved the last 3 books and the series as a whole.

About 100 pages into Peter Clines' "14", ... I'm still waiting for the first big surprise or a creepy moment. So far it's a lot of little weird moments, and I hope they all come together later on.

You are in for SUCH a treat.

Now I have about 100 pages left and this book has officially gone off the deep end, lol. Really enjoying it though.

Has anyone read or heard anything about Infomocracy by Malka Older?

All I want is a few uninterrupted hours where I'm not otherwise exhausted to read FoL. Apparently this is too much to ask for from the universe. Am around 35% and craaaaawling, no fault of the book.

I am exactly the same. Feels slow but I know the slog will be worth it!

I love Whelans artwork, ive got 2 on my wall.

I wish he would have done Wizard and Glass as well, would have loved to see what he'd done with those characters.
I've always been crazy but its kept me from going insane.

Reading Andy McDermott's THE VALHALLA PROPHECY, and it's hitting all the right archeology/adventure/shoot-em-up vibes that I like. Kind of SIGMA-esque, without the American DARPA focus.

Anyone who likes Sigma will like this. It's great fun (though note this is like book 9 in the series)!

I read the first three quite a few years back. Nice action-adventure quotient though the repeated emphasis on oversize handguns was a bit off putting. I don't really remember why but something about book 4 put me off and I dropped the series.

Got a lot of reading done recently, but the one I want to talk about is The Rook by Daniel O Malley. Its a variation on the urban fantasy/secret government organization theme and I really loved it. What did it for me was the snarky narrative tone of the book and the way in which the functioning of the organization is portrayed. Think X Men in a British Secret Service mould.

I think those of us who like the Laundry books might appreciate this series. (Looking at you Abyss)

50% of the way through Warriors of the Storm. Hopefully this weekend will allow me to finish the book. At this point I'm waiting to see that Uhtred is Sharpe's ancestor.

Wouldn't that be an excellent coup!

Doing a casual re-read of Blood and Bone. I liked this one from the first.

I just finished the Night Angel series last week. I feel the last book was not as good as the first. Did anyone else feel like some Wheel of Time cross-contamination was occurring?

Other than the basic 'just a bit more adult than YA' tone? Not really.Sure, some tropes appear in both series, but other than your basic Chosen One plot type stuff nothing really jumps to mind.

When I read Night Angel I also noticed tons of similarities to the world of WoT. Brent Weeks comments on it here: http://brentweeks.ni...-similarities-2

Finally making some real progress on FoL. Holy shit but chapters 16 and 17 ramped up the game. I feel like this book is taking some serious investment, but that the payoff will be glorious.

I also tore through The Pale Horseman by Cornwell on audio last week. I'm really looking forward to the casting for certain characters introduced here for season 2.

Next up for earbook is The Autumn Republic by McClellan. I really renege enjoying the first two books, as well as the novellas, but this one seems to be falling a bit flat. I suspect that it's simply due to timing on my part though. Nearly any fantasy work placed opposite of FoL and following one of Cornwell's Uhtred books is bound to feel lackluster.

Started the Warded Man by P Brett. For some reason, I think that I had this confused with another series when I bought it. It seems a whole lot like I'm reading the introduction for characters that really belong in the world of Kvothe by Rothfuss. I'm past the halfway point, and it seems predictable & a tad generic - but I still want to keep reading. It's possible that I just don't enjoy some kinds of fantasy anymore.

I'd say if you're not in love with it just stop after book 1. Brett has his raving fans who think he can do no wrong and that the series keeps getting better. Everyone else thinks it goes downhill fast.

I really don't understand how people like the Demon cycle but then again, there are tons of people that love Goodkind. Personally, I made it about 3/4 through Warded Man and quit.

Just finished 11/22/63 by King. Loved it. Great audiobook. Fantastic narrator.
