Just finished the second book in the Kingkiller Chronicles. Wow, this is a must read for anyone. It's a shame it's not completed yet, (I didn't know when I started).

So I picked another series from the top 100 character list. As that's where I discovered Kvothe.

So I have started to read The Green Rider series. Karigan as the main star.
Apt is the only one who reads this. Apt is nice.

Iron Elves is decidedly "meh". It's not terrible, but there are many better things out there.

:p Shadows of the Apt has a rocky start, but it gets awesome right around the time Solarno is introduced ( well, at the very least the awesomesauce of Solarno eclipses the still somehat boring bits), and it manages to end strong, which is huge for such a long series.

I think I am going to take up Shadows of the Apt in light of all the good reviews (and BK has been talking about it since forever Posted Image)

I did read the first two books many years back and I remember two people called Stenwold and Tisamon. And a rather large scale war..... ot was it the fear of a war? Anyway, starting.

Your re reading 1 right? Or starting with 3?

Starting with 1. I remember 10% of what happened in 1 and nothing from 2.

I just finished Fool Moon on audio. I think that was actually a stronger book than I thought it was originally, but on a first read one misses all the foreshadowing involved. And there is a TON of foreshadowing in this one. I think I'm going to enjoy doing a full series listen.

I'm buckling down on Magic Strikes now and made it to the halfway point. It's good to get more Jim, and I gotta say that Saiman is a very interesting character. I just don't think the way he does, so his character is very unpredictable to me.

Next up on audio is Precursor by CJ Cherryh. I liked the first trilogy well enough and my ex-wife always used to swear the second got much better, so what the hell.

Book 1 is shaky. It picks up after that, though. Rather simplistic but I've found it to be very compelling and enjoyable.

I was reading The Martian over the weekend but the narrative voice was irritating the hell out of me, so I put it to one side. I may return to it, not sure.

Instead, I picked up A Natural History of Dragons: A Memoir by Lady Kent by Marie Brennan, which is great fun. I love the mock-Victorian world and style its written in and, you know, DRAGONS! Posted Image

Reading Of Sea and Shadow by Will Wight. Not bad, I like the world the author is creating. And lots of ships and maritime scenes which I love but never get enough of in fantasy.

Yes. I see what you mean about the simplicity. It's not as gripping as I thought it would be. I'm 25% in, and she has shown much incompetence and there's a lot of silliness. I dislike the horse being named The Horse. I dislike the 2 old cronies giving her gifts that a 2 year old could have drummed up. Basically I'm not turning the pages as quickly as I like because it seems childish.

Another gripe. The Green Rider who gives her the message has been galloping hard. It's an important message and I'm assuming haste would be imperative.

Oh my God.

Spends days travelling, meets them old women spends time with them. Has baths or whatever. Then is travelling for days again. Then gets injured and recovered for at least 4 days 4 nights and then when she is recovered she takes another day and night to build up strength.

By now people are already hearing rumours of what her message contains. Or at least part of it.

Then she gets captured and it's going on for days. This is all 26% into the book. For fuck sake I am knackered for her. I no longer give a shit about the message or her or her damn horse.

But I'm wondering why the hell the green rider who give her the message was galloping so hard. If it's taken her 789 weeks to get no where then what is he hoping to achieve. Jesus.
