I thought Warbreaker, was an average book at best it was only wrote as a prequel for a character in the Stormlight Archive,

Words of radiance is the best 1000 page book, where nothin atal happens.

Sanderson also changed the ending somewhat in the newest printings.

Finished "Look Who's Back" a thought provoking yet rather amusing (and rather obviously controversial) tale about Hitler waking up in Berlin, 2011, without remembering anything since 1945. Everyone thinks he is a comedian very dedicated to the part & he ends up becoming hugely popular all over again. Narrated by Hitler, it is definitely one that will no doubt cause discussion...

Gonna start reading some Pratchett. Probably The Colour of Magic.

Finished up Touch and it was good but not brilliant, in a way very much a stylistic/thematic successor to The First Fiften Lives of Harry August which is good but I hope North doesn't just continue repeat herself because she got talent.

Started the Skull Throne by Peter V Brett not far enought into it to say more then that it is comfortable to return to a cast of characters you know.

Finished Ketty Jay book 4. I think this book nicely encapsulated the difference between popcorn-entertainment books like Ketty Jay and the more gritty stuff. Still immensely enjoyable though.

I am starting my Malazan reread. This time I think I am going to ditch my usual frenetic pace and go slow, take more notice of stuff etc.

I am going to intersperse the reread with the Vorkosigan books of L Bujold

Edit: And This reread is going to be in the D'rek approved all the books in order style, including the novellas.

Also, since its pretty clear that Goats of Glory is set in the Malazan universe, shouldn't it be moved from the non-Malazan subforum?

Finished "Words of Radiance".

gonna have lots and lots of words in the dedicated subforum, but basic impression goes here.

1) I disagree with whomever it was that characterized this as "the most awesome book where nothign happens for 1000 pages" Slow-burning, for sure, but things were always moving.

2) Despite the ending being spectacularly awesome AGAIN, and leaving us with the mothier of all cliffhangers in just about every plot line, my fears for this series have not been put to rest. As such, i have not yet moved it into my "buy a tradeback as soon as it's out" category. Maybe Book 3 will finally wow me, the way MoI did.

Next, I've got more awesome, because "Skin Game".

I finished Happy Hour in Hell. It was a good read, but not great. I think the concept's scope escaped William's grasp. I'll probably start Sleeping Late on Judgement Day this weekend. I have some TV to catch up on.

Am now halfway through the latest Kate Daniels book (referred to as Katestasy from here on out...what? Abyss is the only one who can coin an addictive-drug term for a series of books? ) by Ilona Andrews and goddamn this series is just the best since Dresden. I've probably said that before, but from the interesting world building, to compelling characters, to the Buffy-esque dialogue, to the general badassedness of the leads (Kate, Andrea, Curran, Derek...and of course psychopathic dog Grendel) this series is just amazing and addictive. I've only got two books before I'm caught up (plus a side adventure with Andrea and Raphael) though, so I know afterwards I'll go into withdrawal. For those who have yet to take the plunge into this UrbFant amazefest...get on it!

Withdrawal is shit. Everything is empty and hollow... and there no mutant poodles barfing all over the place. How do you live without that???

IMHO, the Kate Daniels series is better than Dresden (both in my top 3 UF list) there is also a side story with Dali and Jim that you should read. I think it takes place after book 6.

IMHO, the Kate Daniels series is better than Dresden (both in my top 3 UF list) there is also a side story with Dali and Jim that you should read. I think it takes place after book 6.

I saw that...actually I think there are now two Dali and Jim short stories...both characters I enjoy, so I'll deifnitely be reading them.

I'm also going to try out Andrews CLEAN SWEEP series as well.

I need something to read, preferably a strong UF series that came out in the last couple of years. The re-read season has passed me and I'm ready to put my toes back in the water in a genre that has a tendency to burn me all too often.

My favorite authors in the genre are Seanan McGuire, Ilona Andrews, and Jim Butcher. I've also read just about everything from the other big authors in the genre. My favorite UF novel is Dark Days book 5 by Jocelynn Drake (which coincidentally is a series I recommend to all UF readers as not too many people have read it)

I haven't read anything new since A World of Ice and Fire came out. Any help will he appreciated.

As well as the aforementioned Generation V, and Dresden, you could pick from this board's favourites are the Felix Castor books by Mike Carey and the Peter Grant books by Ben Aaronovitch. I also love the Matthew Swift and Magicals Anonymous series by Kate Griffin. So pick one of them if you've not.
