Moved onto the 4th Kate Daniels MAGIC BLEEDS by Ilona Andrews. Already 100 pages in and loving it. If I've not said it before, no word of a lie this is as close as an Urban fantasy author has come to matching Dresden for world, style and pacing. Really excellent stuff.

Totally agree on the Kate Daniels series coming as close as possible to matching Dresden! Dresden will always be my favorite urban fantasy series, but the Kate Daniels books are so soooo entertaining! I read all the books in one week, I couldn't stop. Very addictive.
Btw, the short stories are good too, especially those about Jim & Dali (Magic Dreams (KD #4,5) & Magic Steals (KD #6,5)).

Yeah, I've got the order Ilona mentions on the official site to go by where those shorts fit in and will be reading them as well...and the Andrea standalone book GUN METAL MAGIC.

Finished Bartimaeus Sequence. To be honest, I wasn't that impressed. For once I avoided any spoilers, having only a general idea about the story. Something about an apprentice summoning a powerful djinni. Somehow, I missed the fact that the protagonist is 12. Anyway, it has its moments but I won't be rereading this series unless I become immortal and run out of things to do. Which, sadly, seems unlikely.

Started 'The Darkness that Comes Before', 1st part of 'The Prince of Nothing' series. Seems promising, though slightly confusing at the beginning.

Finally finished "Wise Man's Fear" last night. It was better than the 1st of the series, more action I think. I will read the next one if I get a chance.

If you're referring to The Slow Regard for Silent Things, it's not the next in the series but a novella centered around Auri being crazy. If you're referring to Doors of Stone, stand in line with the rest of us.

And it will continue to be so.

Corollary: you have already read the best part of that series and you might as well move onto something that isn't so vastly frustrating. :The Force:

Disagree. I think the whole first trilo is worth your time.
...I wish I could say the same about the second.

I hope that this is the case. So far it has been interesting, though the number of times I had to turn back the pages to remember who's this guy/where's this place/what they're even talking about is too high to admit in public.
And I really want to find out whether the young guy from the beginning is such an asshole as I think he is.
Besides, I'm a completionist. I was sorta bored by the first Bartimaeus book but I still read the next 3 so that I could have ticked off the whole series as 'finished' :The Force: "The Prince of Nothing" for now seems to be like that really crazy, but equally hot girl. Enjoy the ride and treat all that confusion as a price paid for having a good time.

Thanks for the tip. I'm ready for other stuff anyway.

I started "Stealer of Flesh" by William King, it was free on Kindle, it seems very Warhammer-ish, but maybe that's because King writes a lot of Warhammer stuff.

Listening to Neuromancer and A Shadow in Summer (re-read). Really digging Neuromancer so I've got Zero History lined up next. Also, 25% in Ace of Skulls to top off my Ketty Jay marathon. It's funny; when I first tried Retribution Falls 4 years ago, I put it down halfway because it seemed silly and like a Firefly rip off and now I find myself loving it because of that - I picture Nathan Fillion as Frey.

Finished Betrayer of Worlds. Didn't like it a lot. Left too many things hanging, some things were a bit overcomplicated. Going to start Ringworld now.

This week - finished "sailing to Utopia"--yet another Moorcock omnibus. He does sci-fi MUCH better than heoric fantasy, imho.

I'll post a full review in the ded thread in a few days. Next on my commute read is more Moorcock-the nomad of time trilo, and it is quite good so far.

I finished the new Legion novella and then also some free short stories on audible. The Viscount and the Witch and The Jester by Michael J Sullivan, and The Playground by Ray Bradbury. Reminded me I should check out those other two Riyria prequels.

Credits are due today so I'm going to grab The Lord of Castle Black by Steven Brust and start that as soon as they show up.

Cell by Stephen King, I feel like I'm reading Under the Dome again somehow, maybe it's just the writing style.

Still working my way through Shadowplay by Williams. Great story, I just don't have a lot of time to read right now.

Finished Shadow Throne by Wexler, a bit more intrigue but not much really, still fast paced action.
There's not much meat to it so to speak but its enjoyable fare, even if Janus is a bit too smart/lucky for my liking.

Wil buy the third when it comes out next year

I'm about 1/3 into Willful Child and I think a lot of it is flying over my head. A lot of the time I'm not sure what's a joke and what's not. Not that I'm not laughing on occasion too, but it's just as often a head-scratcher. I think I'm getting dumber.

Assail by Esslemont. Trying to finish up a paper for uni as well, so it's slow going (have been reading this for a month instead of the two/three days I'd usually need for a book this size).
