It's not a long read. You could bash through it in a few hours at the rate you read.

Edit: only 3 quid on Kindle. How many books are there, is the series complete & are they fairly self contained? Don't want to get hooked on something else my TRP is too big as it is...

Not complete. 4 books out so far, and Aaronovitch is signed up to book 8 now. Book 5 comes out this summer in the UK.

EDIT: I should note that this is now my second fave Urban Fantasy series behind Dresden...so take that into acct.

I'll second the PETER GRANT reco ... they're fast reads, fun, have some fairly original stuff as urbanfant goes and the first three are self-contained.

I'm currently reading In Dark Service, the first book of Stephen Hunt's new series. I really struggled with his earlier efforts- The Court of the Air I really wanted to like but it didn't click with me much, and I never got through the sequel - but this is a massive increase in quality and, at about the halfway mark, a really good book.

The basic hook of the series is that it's set on a world of effectively infinite size, and that unlike other similar creations, this actually has an impact on the culture therein - and on the plot. In this book specifically, it's a familiar-but-compelling story of 'town's children get kidnapped by slavers, parents set off to get them back'. Simple, but it works, especially with Hunt's apparent knack for action (something I don't remember having him before). There's an early battle scene that's genuinely one of the best I've read in years.

We'll see how I feel once I end it, but so far I'm really impressed. It's also £1.99 on Kobo at the moment, so...

Finished "Caliban's War". The expanse books are great. despite all the stuff going on in my life, these books are genuinely difficult to put down, making me stay up late on weekdays reading. Which is unquestionably, a sign of good books, imho.

In terms of the book itself, unlike "Leviathan wakes", the "noir" elements aren't as obvious here. It's a much more character-focused book than what I remember of the first volume. and the transition (or evolution?) works.

Next I have "Red Country", but might re-read "Best Served Cold" as a refresher first.

Okay so I started Rivers of London yesterday and immediately vote caught up in the easy and gently funny narration. Peter is an extremely likeable and relatable character (and he gets so many things right about being a cop in the UK!) Was very tired last night but am already 15% in. Thanks QT et al.

That's not a TRP man, that's a couple of book in waiting. Thy need to replenish is high. My TRP is still sitting at about 20 books. Your TRP should daunt you when you stare at it.

Haven't met all them yet, and I don't know all these actors, but I like Noel Clarke in Dr Who, and now it is mentioned I can kind of see that!

EDIT: My TRP is pretty massive but I haven't counted it. There are a bunch of actual books I have that I have never read either (someone gave me a whole bunch of the Assassin Creed novels once and occasionally asks me if I have read them yet so I know I should do so eventually...

Finished Hyperion last night - wow, very good stuff, though bit of a bother that I don't have a copy of Fall yet given that the first book is basically 'part 1' and ends on a cliffhanger.

Just finished Felix Gilman's the Revolutions; it's a standalone Victorian science fiction, arcane exploration, planetary romance (according to Amazon). It's good, real good, but also very much different than probably anything else I've read and a bit too different at times. I don't want to elaborate cause spoilers but I think anyone that's enjoyed his previous works, will enjoy this, though it's nothing at all like anything else he's written. Beware the audiobook because from hour 4 to 5, it randomly pauses and skips.

Just started Nine Princes in Amber; was not expecting this. I had no idea it had anything to do with our world. Anyway, I like it so far.

Also, finished reading the Serpent of Venice by Christopher Moore (sequel to Fool). It was alright. I guess I've grown out of his humor a bit though some parts did have me laughing.
