Done with Word of radiance and I have to say it was kind of a let down. It was never bad, the pacing was okei, but it never got to 5. gear sort of say. After reading Cook for a while Sanderson writing is just dull. And it only gets confirmed now that I'm reading Promise of blood again. Sanderson really have to to something with his writing, because the world building and the setting is good, but the writing just pulls it down.

@Briar. if you get them cheap you should try the short novellas set to the same world as Promise of blood.

Finished the second Flavia De Luce novel (wicked great fun, just like the first. glad I have the next two set to go after a break).

On a whim I've picked up TRAITOR'S BLADE by Sebastien De Castell, starting it later today.

Finished the Earthsea Quartett. That was.. an interesting experience, and I have to say that I actually, in the end, truly loved it even though I started off wanting to shred it to pieces. Wish I had The Other Wind here, as I've come to like Le Guin's writing; post A Wizard of Earthsea, that is.

Now, on to Cory Doctorow's Homeland.

Over the past few days I finished Bujold's Shards of Honor, which was okay, then read the sequel Barrayar, which I really enjoyed.

Then I read Doorways in the Sand by Roger Zelazny, which was okay but didn't really wow me.

And now I'm making a start on The Faded Sun Trilogy by C J Cherryh.

I loved Blood Song!!

Reading the 2nd book by John Gwynne, Valor.

Enjoying it just as much as the first, if not better!

Finished The Magician King and liked it a whole lot. It improved on the first book in just about every way. While the first was all jagged, abrasive depiction of privilege in a kinda-sorta Bret Easton Ellis-meets-Catcher in the Rye way -- appreciably so, and kinda brave IMO for Grossman never letting up on the unlikable qualities of Q and his fellows, though it could be wearisome -- the second book allows its characters to grow naturally through challenges to their privilege and raised stakes from the "real" world(s) puncturing their bubbles. And the finale was friggin awesome. I also went back and read the Grossman story in Dangerous Women, and found it quite charming. Anticipating the third book much harder than I was before.

Also read the first Veronica Mars post-movie novel (The Thousand-Dollar Tan Line) and my expectations were met and apprehensions swept away. The mystery is boilerplate, but the tone of the show and its characters all shine through.

Now I'm starting the Coldfire trilogy. Wanted something very genre-y but still well-regarded, hopefully this will do the trick.

Yeah, Coldfire's good in that center of the genre-encapsulating, yet very competent way. You'll like it.
