Audio: Over halfway through the Troupe by Robert Jackson Bennett and am dig'n the hell out of this. It's almost like Name of the Wind meets Night Circus meets Stephen King - or something. Kind of hard to compare to anything else but that's my opinion if I had to. Also, almost done with Heroes Die re-read/listen. Even better the second time. Next up, Necessary Evil and Gatherer of Clouds.
Written: Halfway through with Farlander and am 10% into Tyrant's Law.

I was so 100% blown thew fuck away by Leigh Bardugo's SHADOW AND BONE (read it in about a day and a half) that I skittered to the bookstore today and grabbed the hardcover 2nd book SIEGE AND STORM and I'm gonna jump into it tonight. Easily the most compelling new YA series I've come across since the HUNGER GAMES.

Way to promote Malazan, Abyss!
I love how someone's immediate reaction to seeing that, was to recommend Goodkind. That brought a tear of laughter to my eye.
On topic: Finished The Wandering Fire. Now I see the borrowing from King Arthur thing. I had been confused when I'd seen the comments about it after The Summer Tree.
I also ended up changing my reading list for the month as soon as I found out that the Temeraire book had came out. So now I'm jumping into Ghost King by Gemmell while I wait for Blood of Tyrants to come in the mail.

Just finished 'The Thousand Names' by Django Wexler. Loved it. Military fantasy fiction (similar to tavore and the bonehunters, as someone mentioned before) but with muskets and canons and interesting magic. The fighting and battles are really well written.

Took a break out of everything else to read "Cold Days" which is finally in mmpb. ok, wow, this was good.
That being said, I still remain skeptical of the direction Dresden Files took with "Changes". They are still great books, but the series doesn't grab me as much now that the scale has gone up so much. that's just me though.
With that done, I'll get back to Gavin Smith's "Veteran". Reading this one has been slow, largely because I've been recovering from the long weekend, and mostly just slept after work.

Finished Ein Kind by Thomas Bernhard yesterday. Really interesting and a great writing style.
Started Caine Black Knife today.
(A few chapters in I realized that some passages were missing due to conservion. Now have to start again on my Laptop or at least try to find out what parts I couldn't read.
I'm starting to hate this whole ebook drm shit) ....but anyway, CBK is great so far

I just finished reading Deadhouse Gates for the second time and it was even better than the first time around. It's simply astounding how much I apparently missed the first time, the details, the conversations, the ideas. Damn, second time around really puts the first time around to shame.
Screw you all, and have a nice day!

I just finished it too a few weeks ago, and now into MOI. It's about my 3rd time with this book, though I haven't done a full re-read since finishing the series. So this is a biggie. Really enjoying it, and falling for the series again. I'm reminded again and again of all the reasons why I love these books.

Finished the Troupe and am not entirely sure how I feel about it. It was really good in some aspects but the main protagonist is a 17 yr old that acts like a 17 yr old, naive, cocky....etc which is annoying but accurate. He isn't entirely unlikeable it's just that sometimes there were some screamingly obvious things going on that went right over his head and you're kind of like "how do you not get this" then you realize that he's 17 and it seems appropriate, though still annoying. I give it 4 stars out of 5. It's a book you'll remember.
Now on to Gatherer of Clouds. Looking forward to this.

E R Eddison's THE WORM OUROBOROS. Interesting but man is it florid and archaic prose.
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

It's intentionally archaic too, which is just nuts. WORM was a hard novel to plow through; I don't know if it was really worth the trouble, but I'm still glad I read it.
"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

Was lent Vernor Vinge's _Children Of The Sky_ by a dude at work, and it's awesome already The sequel to _A Fire Upon The Deep_, if you weren't aware of it -- I wasn't until he mentioned it to me. (_A Deepness In The Sky_ is a prequel.)
It is perfectly monstrous the way people go about nowadays saying things against one, behind one's back, that are absolutely and entirely true.
