That's kind of the next book's job - to ramp up the angry and the dark, complete with cussing.

Then the third links into the truly cosmic and epic in scope, while the fourth makes everything make sense and not make sense and make sense and gives us the sweet co-Caine we want all the while.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

Fixed.
"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

finally finished with BROKEN ANGELS,, it took quite a while, but i'm finally finished, now reading Morgan's MARKET FORCES, i already read Prologue and Chapter 1 of this before, but i'm just now continuing this,, while not as good as the Kovacs books, it still has the same feeling as those books,,

after i finish this, will move on immeadiately to WOKEN FURIES,,
It's not who I am underneath.. but what i do that defines me - Batman, Batman Begins; 'Without our deaths, sir, there would be no crime. Thus, no punishment to match,' 'Mortal Sword - '
'We are done, my friend. Now, in this manner, we choose the meaning of our deaths' - Mortal Sword Brukhalian to Veteran Nilbanas, siege of Capustan
'Ippen shinde miru (want to try dying this once) ?' - Jigoku Shoujo (Hell Girl)

Oh Tiste.... You poor bastard... You have no idea what you're in for. I envy you for what HD is about to fire into your brain, and then what BoT is going to do in the open wound.

i thought a more subtle approach to the imagery was effective, but there is something to be said for the blunt instrument side of things.

Finished The Summer Tree last night. When you guys were mentioning that this wasn't his typical work, are you saying it's of a different vein then usual, or that it's weaker than his usual? Cause I fell in love with this book. Very very well written to the point that I caught myself rereading sentences to let the beauty of them sink into my thinkymeats.

Anyways, as mentioned upthread, onward towards The Hobbit!

In the sense that most of his later books take place in fully realized worlds without the 'people from our world are displaced to a world of our own legends' elements. FIONAVAR relies heavily on Aurthorian, Norse and Celtic myths among other things. In later books GGK gets far more clever.

Not to take anything away from FIONAVAR, which i enjoyed, but i thought his later stuff was better for the additional originality.

That makes a lot of sense to me. Thus far FIONAVAR has been reminding me of a much better written SONG OF ALBION by Lawhead. To me, it was very very apparent how much inspiration he had taken from FIONAVAR. I will be looking forward to more GGK in my future.

No. It is quite possibly the worst book written by an SF author with actual talent in quite some time.

I went audio on Ysabel and gave up 3hrs in. Thought it was no good, narrator and plot wise. I'd say that it's his worst/weakest novel.

Am stalling out a bit with RIYRIA bk5... sidetracked on some comics and other stuff, and with KING and EMPEROR of THORNS both sitting there taunting me...

if you've read FIONAVAR it serves as a sort of distant epilogue, but YSABEL is one of those rare books where I literally (pun intended) know of no one who liked it, including many near fanatic GGK fans who even enjoyed TIGANA.

;)

I remember having to struggle to get through Ysabel, but I did in the end, if only out of loyalty.

Anyway, right now I'm reading two books, Ship of Rome by John Stack and The Unlikely Voyage of Jack de Crow by A.J. Mackinnon. The first I picked up because as someone who studies Rome a book of historical fiction that focuses on their navy is actually quite refreshing from a historical point of view, as their legions or politics often take the main focus (I may or may not have written a thesis on the topic as well... ;) ). The second is a truly hilarious travel book from my old English teacher who rowed a dinghy from North Wales to the Black Sea and wrote a book about it. I'm only about halfway through it at the moment but I would recommend it to anybody who is looking for a funny and engaging read. Might be a bit difficult for people to get outside of Australia though.

It's actually going to be a good idea to take a few books of time off before reading the 6th book. It will be all the more affecting after a break.

Just my humble opinion as someone who had to wait for PERCEPLIQUIS a few months...the wait did me good to allow my brainsicles to relax out of the world a while.
