Finished OF FIRE AND NIGHT in a lazy two days. Supremely readable! I also like how one plot thread was seemingly tied up only to be offset by the introduction of several more, and said introduction was seamless.

Now about halfway through AMERICAN GODS.

Finished The Illearth War, Blood and Bone, and Sandman Slim this week.

QT, I see the problems you had with SS, the Brad Pitt thing specifically. It did get a lot better imho 75 to 100 pages in. Not sure how far you got in.

I actually just finished Before They Are Hanged. It was good... but not great. I've realized that the trilogy simply can't be compared to Malazan or even ASOIAF in terms of its epicness. It's a bit too simple for my liking, and really doesn't seem to be doing anything new. It's fun to read and the action sequences are usually really good, but there isn't anything particularly interesting about it (so far).

I'm curious to see how the standalone novels work and whether they tie in with the trilogy at all.

With Abercrombie it's much more about the characters and writing than epicness. It's the only fantasy I can think of where I really don't care about the mythology.

Got my copy of the VanderMeers' massive The Weird anthology the other day. This book is like the best thing ever oh my goodness you guys. 110 stories spanning over 100 years of Weird fiction, including Lovecraft, Dunsany, Kafka, Borges, Peake, Gaiman, GRRM, and like a billion other names. So incredibly amazing.

Finished Blood and Bone. Liked it a lot with some of the usual ICE caveats.

Now I'm gonna read a non-fantasy novel (for shame!) called Room, about a 5 year old kid (the narrator) who's been locked inside a room by his mom for his whole life. Might also be good to read a book that's not 500+ pages long.
