I wouldn't call Of Blood and Honey the best book I've read this year, but it was a very good read and way better than I had expected. I will definitely be buying the next book, and recommending it to people.

I'm currently reading Cold Days!! The first few chapters are still as enjoyable as they were as preview chapters, and the rest is obviously still dresdencrack.

Well shit. I have a dilemma. Bitter Seeds, Cold Days, Red Country, AND Blood And Bone all came in the mail today. Too much to choose from!

If I can recommend a pathway: COLD DAYS then BITTER SEEDS then RED COUNTRY then BLOOD AND BONE

I have spoken.

Following this for the most part with a couple very minor modifications. Finished Cold Days yesterday, then read The 50 Year Sword by Mark Z Danielewski, snacking on The Emperor's Soul for a couple hours this evening, then kicking into Bitter Seeds before I go to sleep. I think I might throw Wyrd Sisters into the mix between Bitter Seeds and Red Country, and Guards! Guards! between Red Country and Blood and Bone.

Started _The Black Prism_ last night, and continued on the train to work this morning. Fun so far, but mainly in a I-can-see-what's-coming kind of way. But the magic system is interesting, and Weeks' writing is drawing me in more than it did in the _Way of Shadows_.

Trying The Shadow of the Torturer again. I think this is the 4th time I've attempted to finish the book.

Have a few GNs going in the post MILKWEED-COLD DAYS-BLOOD AND BONE detox period. Large chunks of WALKING DEAD should take the edge off nicely.

Alan Dean Foster's LOST AND FOUND and Barry Eisler's HARD RAIN are both standing by... can't quite decide if i feel like aliens or assassins...

I read The Way of Shadows two or three months after it came out and found that it was a really fun read. Since all the books were released around the same time I picked up the second and third as well. However, I had to put the second book down about halfway through. Things just didn't feel anywhere near as fun or interesting and everything was extremely predictable. Is it worth picking the trilogy up for another try?

Well, there are others on the forum who would say yes, the trilogy gets better with each book. I can't really comment, as the first book wasn't enough to get me to read the rest of the trilogy -- I found it a bit juvenile.

With a very flat prose. If you're not bothered by that such of thing go for it I guess.

Yeah. "Juvenile with flat prose" seems pretty accurate. I had to force myself to finish it. It does get better with each book, and I'm glad I read it, but on the whole I found it largely forgettable.

I think it's worth reading provided you're in the frame of mind for fairly 'light' fantasy. I enjoyed the trilo but am unlikely to reread it and would never put it on the level of MBF, SIF or Caine.

I disagree on the juvenile point. Yes, it starts with a poor orphan grows up to be uber-assassin hero saviour base, but it doesn't flounder on that. And some of the plotlines are completely the opposite of juvenile and pretty damn dark.

Tho i'll note the love plots flounder hopelessly and are the weakest and most irritating part of the story.

Great great action scenes, a fun non-complicated magic system, some interesting characters and an entertaining bad guy or two. It's fantasy lit burger, not steak, but a totally satisfying burger.

Captain's Fury. The series has been slow going only because I don't have as much time to read as I normally do.

just finished with Beyond the Shadows, will start later with Empire in Black and Gold,

I agree, the Night Angel Trilogy is worth the read, now I'm curious as to how Weeks improved with his 2 new installment for the Lightbringer trilogy,
though my only quips with the books, and the one I didn't liked in the books is the sub-plot where i felt i have read a 2nd WoT series, though thankfully without the spanking of bottoms, but there was the smoothing of the skirts, aarrggh...:)

I was also intrigued/surprised with one particular scene/storyline that reminded me of a GoT/ASoIaF scene/storyline,,,

also reading 1 chapter a day of The Darkness that Comes Before, would have loved this more, if Bakker introduced a Church-Knight, as i don't like a Warrior-Monk who is so uber-powerful,

It's not who I am underneath.. but what i do that defines me - Batman, Batman Begins; 'Without our deaths, sir, there would be no crime. Thus, no punishment to match,' 'Mortal Sword - '
'We are done, my friend. Now, in this manner, we choose the meaning of our deaths' - Mortal Sword Brukhalian to Veteran Nilbanas, siege of Capustan
'Ippen shinde miru (want to try dying this once) ?' - Jigoku Shoujo (Hell Girl)

Fifty pages from the end of Bitter Seeds. I've enjoyed it, but I don't feel the absolute overwhelming NEED to go get The Coldest War. I do plan on getting it eventually, but I don't really see myself continuing until book 3 is out.

In other news, I started Wyrd Sisters on the way home today. Dear Baby Jeebas how HOW did I not get into Discworld sooner!?

Lightbringers are great. Weeks was giving away personalized/ signed bookplates to go into The Blinding Knife for free on his website yesterday. Totally snagged one, pretty cool of him to do.

Anyway, finished Cold Days. It was great, of course! Not sure what is next. I started Stephenson's Cryptonomicon a month or two ago and put it down. May try that again.

Re-trying Richard Kadrey's 1st SANDMAN SLIM novel, and this time it's going down smoother and I'm starting to enjoy it. :)

Note: Put SALUTE THE DARK down as I felt I was ODing on the bug books and needed a short break.

I was the same way...then I decided to read COLDEST WAR anyways and it knocked me for a fucking loop and Tregillis jumped to the pre-order pile.
