Just started Den Of Thieves by David Chandler. Brent Weeks, Peter Brett, and now this guy. Yet another "outlaw protagonist" novel that I'm thoroughly enjoying right off the bat. I have to say I'm very impressed with the current crop of thief/assassin/demon-killer lone protagonist type fantasy stories. I hope it's a lasting genre and not a passing fad.

Have you read Among Thieves? I enjoyed it. It's like Dresden Files set in an Arabic fantasy world, and the main character is a bit more of a scumbag.

I've read that trilo. It was ok. Some good bits, some great ones, overall decent series. I wont ever reread it but i enjoyed it enuf.

We must be talking about something else. I'm talking about the book by Douglas Hulick that came out last year. The sequel to it isn't out yet.

I finished Felix Gilman's The Half-Made World last night and I really enjoyed it, even if the ending didn't reveal as much as I wanted it to. Now I'm on to Stephen Colbert's new "America" book (I need a change of pace) and after that I'll probably start John Scalzi's Redshirts.

I was talking about the Chandler trilo. Book 3 is called 'Honor Among Thieves'.

Rise of Ransom City, its sequel, comes out November 13th. Also, you should really check out Gilman's Thunderer and Gears of the City; both books are fan-fucking-tastic. Gilman is becoming one of my favorite authors.

Finished Mark Lawrence's PRINCE OF THORNS.
Totally lived up to the hype. Great fun book with some thoroughly nasty characters, great twists and some holy fuck action scenes. The author does some nice twists on some tropes of the genre. Will have to pick up the sequel.

Next up, CRACK'D POT TRAIL. SE said it's his favourite of the B&KB novellas, so i'm pretty psyched.... or, to paraphrase the inscription he wrote in the book in San Fran, 'I have been warned!'.

Just finishing up The Breach after a lot of recs on here.

I read it in one day so it's obviously addictive and entertaining, but I can't say I'm going to remember it much past tomorrow if I'm honest.

Probably start Black Bottle by Anthony Huso next.

What do your memory problems have to do with this thread? Keep that stuff to the medical issues sub-forum.

I'm reading Master & Commander, the first of Patrick O'Brian's 'Jack Aubrey' books. I didn't think I was going to like it for much of its first half - there were so many pages full of nautical terms it felt like reading a foreign language. Once that was out of the way, happily, it's settled into a very enjoyable read. Wish I could get Russell Crowe's voice out of my head, though (along with all the others!).

Just finished FoD.
It was a labour to get to the half way point, but it definitely picked up at the end.

Still, I'm curious about lightfall, I want to know the rest of the story, but possibly without page after page of philosophising in the form of twenty characters who's cadence, tone and thought patterns are fucking identical.

I felt the opposite. It was really cool at first just seeing everything we thought we knew turned on its head. Once that novelty wore off it was a bit of a struggle. Still a good book overall and very well written.

You hadn't read it yet? Shame on you, 'Byss. Opinions are thoroughly split on the issue, and while I am in the awesome camp (naturally...), I can see what drives the haters crazy about it.

Right now I am reading The Hydrogen Sonata by Iain Banks. I was very excited to see a new culture book and so far it hasn't disappointed at all.

Reading David Wong's This Book Is Full of Spiders for my Halloween book; it's as horrifying and hilarious as I had hoped. I am now officially freaked out about the Star Trek transporters.

"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"
―Gene Wolfe, The Citadel of the Autarch
