Finished The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami. I've never read a book that varies in quality so much, one chapter is perfectly clever while the other one is ridiculously cliched. I did like it overall, not as much as his masterpiece Hardboiled Wonderland, but it's on par with South of the Border. I loved May, she's one of the best females I've encountered in his books this far.

Now, I'm fully dedicated to V for Vendetta and Baccano! Alice in Jails: Street Episode. After those two I'm finally going to read The Cold Commands.

Just finished "Legend of Eli Monpress" by Rachel Aaron, its an omnibus edition of her first three books that I picked up on a whim last week.

Surprisingly decent crime/adventure type deal in a fantasy setting.
Interesting magic system.

And a world that is slowly getting more complex by the book - nothing intricate, but little layers of detail are being added here and there as it goes on, and it works quite well.

A little predictable in overall plotting on the three books, but I'll be honest, I picked it up expecting a lot less than I got.

Currently reading GGK's Under Heaven. Not enjoying it as much, so far, as the others of his that I've read, but I have had other distractions going on which may account for that.

Finally finished Toll the Hounds Sunday, left Monday and most of Tuesday to absorb the ending of TtH. I've hemmed and hawed about whether or not I wanted to read Orb Sceptre Throne before proceeding to the end of the main sequence, but decided against it and started Dust of Dreams late Tuesday.

Glad to hear it, was planing to read it after I'm finished with Midnight tides, but the cover is so cheesy that I was starting to regret the purchase.

Finished The Shadow of the Wind on my walk home this morning. Wow. Just wow. I will be buying his other two books this weekend. I know the next one is The Angel's Game, but I can't remember the name of the third... I do remember QT mentioning it recently though...

In the meantime I'm moving onto the next book you've all helped pimp towards me. I'm going to start the first page of Revelation Space as soon as I hit post.

Yeah, I enjoyed the hell out of those. Its about time for a full Dark Tower re-read after these last 3 Garrett Books. I think this'll make number 6 or 7.

Just finished BLOODHEIR, being Brian Ruckley's GODLESS WORLD bk 2/3.

I've seen this middle book described as the weakest of the three and the reason why some have lost interest in this trilo, but it held my interest.

The (or perhaps 'a') main baddy is a bit over the top puppy kicking and mustache twirlingly 'I AM EVIL! EEEEEEVIL!!!', but the overall story advanced nicely, the jeopardy to the protags and the world in general was well amped from the first book, and the fairly merciless treatment of the characters made for a nice 'anyone can die' element to the story.

On to book 3 FALL OF THANES without hesitation.

The Catcher in the Rye is finished. It's an odd book. It kept me on edge the whole time, waiting for something important to happen, I dunno what... Holden to freak out and kill somebody, or a meteor to fall down, or alien invasion, or anything really. And nothing happened. In the end I realized that I just read a book about a hypocritical, cynical and overly bitter teen hating everything and everyone. It's not that I didn't like the book overall, it had some pretty good spots, although crude and rough writing, but it kinda felt pointless.
I understand why The Brothers Karamazov is a must-read classic, or The Great Gatsby, Pride and Prejudice, Animal Farm and similar... but I really don't understand what was so memorable in The Cather in the Rye.

V for Vendetta is completed too. Amazing, absolutely. Though, I found myself liking the movie's ending more, it was more dramatic. And also V and Evey's relationship didn't seem as natural in the novel. I liked the new characters and loved some dialogues that weren't in the movie (V with Lady Justice for example).

Starting Hearts in Darkness by Laura Kaye, for some crappy chick lit break.

Read Hearts in Darkness. It was not a slice of life chick-lit like I thought. It was a full out erotic novel with godawful dialogues and just overly stupid. I will now proceed to strangle a friend who bought me this.
