Probably some form of crime against humanity...

Going through Acacia by David Anthony Durham but damn its slow going...why do fantasy authors give us these child protagonists and why is the sibling dynamic usually the same !?!?

Perhaps I should go for the next on TBR pile a re-read of Lord of Light...but then I had this absurde idea of not re-reading anything unless I read something new :w00t:

Yeah, the relationship between the kids is very ASOIAF-like. it depressed me at the time I read it.

It picks up a lot once Perrin gets the demon sword and kills Matt.

I also read like six times the part where Nyneave strangles three trollocs with her braid.

And Rand becoming a cyborg was a high point in the series.

It's also possible that none of these things happen.

I will pay you to rewrite it this way.

Finished "The Voayge of sable Keech".

Like people said, it's no Skinner , though still fairly fun.
I have Orbus sitting on my shelf, but i'll save it for now.

next up, I'll be reading "Stormlord's Exile" by Glenda Larke, b/c I want to finish that trilogy.

Finished Childhood's End by Arthur C Clarke and The Perfect Shadow by Brent Weeks. I'm glad that I reread CE. Even better this time around than the first. Hopping onto Crucible of Gold by Naomi Novik now. I don't expect this one to take me long.

Finished up Gene Wolfe's Endangered Species collection, which was amazing, per usual. Also done with The Gods of Mars; that cliffhanger ending's just not fair!

Note that BC was in his "won't ever reread" category. Also a shame, but a much lesser one.
"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

I take cheques, but i'll warn you right away that you're going to find Lanfear and Egwene's torrid asexual sub-dom relationship a bit difficult to read.

I did give them to someone else to read, but yeah, i did not feel the love for that series. SHE IS THE DARKNESS was the high point and the end point as far as I was concerned.

Enjoy. It's a ... unique ... book.

Just finished Watt's BEHEMOTH, end of his RIFTER trilo. I have to say the overall story is quite something. the first book, STARFISH, is by far the most unusual and interesting, but the series as a whole is good reading, takes a few interesting twists, and just fucks with a lot of notions of futurism, life, what a hero is, and what truly damaged people are capable of when you turn them into vengeful aquatic cyborgs.

Not sure quite what to draw from the TRP now... i'm feeling like a series, but maybe something frivolous first.... once i get this little bit of writing done...

So I started A SONG FOR ARBONNE by GGK...I'm about 100 pages into it and...I'm mostly bored. Where THE LIONS OF AL-RASSAN grabbed me by the throat and wouldn't let go, this one is just not doing much for me. I only really care about Blaise and the only part I enjoyed so far was his interaction with Beatritz (High Priestess of the Goddess Rian, and part of me assumes is his aunt). That was spread over about 4 pages. 4 pages enjoyed in 100 is not the best ratio. Like there is a whole chapter about Signe and the machinations of the various places and factions, and how she misses her dead husband and children...snore...I dunno, so far this book is doing next to nothing for me.

I'm going to put it back into the TBR pile for a while, as I want to give it fairer shakes down the line.

Give it a bit more of a chance, it's actually one of my favourite GGK novels, especially of the standalones. Blaise is definitely the standout character, although I do prefer to think of him by his street name: B-Lazy. :wine:

Read the Weeping Angels DW story TOUCHED BY AN ANGEL in one day. It was good, had some emotional bits, but it wasn't anywhere near as good as a other's I've read. I find it harder for authors to deliver Matt Smith's performance on the page. A lot of times the Doctor simply didn't ring as true as he should have (meanwhile Tennant's Doctor's dialogue in the expanded universe books were always good). still, a very decent read considering it's tie-in material.

EDIT: Haven't a clue what to read next...looks at the daunting TRP. Oh my...

Finished _Blindsight_ -- really enjoyed it. First contact is my favourite form of SF, and I enjoyed the hell out of Watts's aliens. I was already familiar with a lot of the concepts he employed, so could enjoy the plot and the characters without having to think too hard about the various contortions. Will definitely check out his trilogy.

Now halfway through _Blood Rites_ in my casual Dresden reread.

'Pon Sombra's recco I've dived back into this again giving GGK some reasonable doubt here and pushing on...hope you are right Sombra. I'll touch base when I finish it.

I'll back Sombra on this... ARBONNE does start slow, but there's a nice steady rise to a great finale. Not his best book, but worth your time.

Over the weekend I finished Alastair Reynolds' House of Suns - very good, could have been great with a bit of judicious editing but I thought it was probably 150 pages too long. It was getting exciting and then the pacing went all over the place as it headed towards the climax. Shame. Still enjoyed it lots, though.

Started Bernard Cornwell's Vagabond this morning.

If it makes you feel better, i gave them to a fellow fantasy fan who will no doubt devour them.
And i did say i wouldn't REREAD. i have read them. I just don't see any reason to keep them.

the TRP is rather daunting... i've started removing books on the basis of they have been there so long i'm just never going to read them, thus, good bye [...] Cook's BLACK COMPANY

Nooooooo! Don't do it!!!!!!!

Two crimes against fantasy in progress on 1 page.

And i did say i wouldn't REREAD. i have read them. I just don't see any reason to keep them.

nostalgia?
