However, I think dislike is a bit strong for some. Most people who say they don't like it are comparing it directly with other Kay that they prefer. Were they to judge it directly on its own merits, they might come to a different conclusion. They might not, either, of course.

Finished Theft of Swords tonight. Really liked it. Think it's time to switch gears for a couple days and finish off the engineer trilogy. The Escapement, here I come. I WILL finish this series this year.

Wow, and before I knew it I am already over 100 pages into Ernest Cline's READY PLAYER ONE and it's riveting! If you grew up anywhere NEAR the 1980's and are even remotely nerdy this book will totally delight you. Love it!

The book has a neat main plot idea, altho the logistics of how the curse operates really seem somewhat poorly thought out. Also the pointless incest thing and random demon dream dimension invasion sideline add nothing at all to the story and are the lowest point in GGK's writing career ISOBEL notwithstanding

...and THAT'S what i dislike about it.

Finished READY PLAYER ONE by Ernest Cline and was literally knocked on my ass by how good it was! See link to proper review in the ded-featured-Reviews-thread. So excellent though.

Tonight, should my copy of PERCEPLIQUIS arrive, I shall be starting that, but if not I'm probably going to get into DEEP SKY as it should be a fast read.

There are so many new awesome books in my ToRead pile from Christmas that this is the first time in a long time I am having trouble sorting out what to read next! Exciting.

Halfway through Cook's Soldiers Live. Finally. Took me months to get back to reading some fiction. Ripped through Water Sleeps during Christmas and am totally enjoying the last BC book so far.

Finally picked up the Transformers: Last Stand of the Wreckers TPB. Wow. Whether you're a devoted TF fan, or just a casual fan, or heck, just someone who's curious to see what this franchise can achieve when handled by folks who really care about and understand it, you owe it to yourself to check this out. Not only does the trade contain the fantastic 5-issue series, but also a great prose story that fills in some of the background details. Highly recommended.

I didn't like Hyperion. Shitty ending.

Ilium blew my socks off at times and bored me in others. Olympos was the same. Shitty ending though.

The Terror is a slow burner, but great story and great ending.

Drood sucked.

For me, Simmons is like an undercooked batch of chocolate chip cookies. Nice idea, but only a couple are really worth eating.

I find that typically Simmons' endings suffer, but I always find the ride to be well worth it.

If you've read THE BREACH and GHOST COUNTRY (and you should), get this book, but leave your expectations at the first page or so... because fuck. In italics no less.

Due to my quick reading speed, I usually blast through most series within a couple months. Just did almost all the Ringworld books over the last month. Great stuff for those looking for a middle ground between Dune, Halo and Asimov.

Interesting. I found Hyperion to be one of the greatest single novel's I've ever read. The subsequent novels, despite how much I enjoyed them, never lived up to the first. So, maybe some of the same phenomena present, maybe not.

Curious to me nonetheless. Hyperion was that good to me to wonder.

I loved the Hyperion cantos, and Drood was awesome in my opinion. Didn't really like The Terror.

Carrion Comfort was a very good horror as well, which I think I wrote just some pages back in this thread.

I have the Terror and Hyperion/Fall of Hyperion already anyway, just haven't gotten to them. And I did read your posts, Morgoth, which led to my decision to try this one out first. I wanted a high body count, and something that would really twist my guts and make my skin crawl. You know, something fun.
