Finished re-reading First Man in Rome the first book of the Masters of Rome series by Colleen McCullogh. Thisis, in my opinion if not the best historical fiction book, at least the best historical fiction on Roman times

Finished reading 'Harry and the Pirates', a short collection of Necroscope stories by Brian Lumley. As this fills in some of the 'Lost Years' gaps, 'Harry and the Pirates' is probably more for long time fans but I still had fun reading it as a first time reader. My full review is over Here. Finished reading Escober's 'Chaos', the tale of a former British soldier who must fight his own demons in order to stand any chance of making through a web of lies in one piece. I found a lot of it contrived, in order to get our hero to a particular spot rather than anything to do with the plot, but it still went along at a fair pace with plenty for me to think about and keep me interested. Finished reading M. John Harrison's 'The Pastel City'. One of the more depressing books I've ever read (it's the end of the world and it feels like everything is an exercise in futility...) but really thought provoking at the same time. Have a look at everything else that I thought about it over Here. For a complete change of pace, I'm now well into Diana Rowland's 'Mark of the Demon'...

just finished Cryptonomicon by Neal Stephenson- has alot of people with similar names to characters in his system of the world series(which is fantastic. long, but fantastic).

Also started re-reading Dan Simmons -Illium, and Olympus- these two books mind blowing. The Trojan war, The Greek gods and godesses are on mars, robots who read Faust and Shakespeare, and futuristic humans that can teleport wherever they want but cant read! crazy good read

Halfway through re-read of RotCG. It's actually better than I remember, now that I'm not comparing it to SE all the time.

But interrupted for the latest Family Trade book by Charlie Stross, _The Revolution Business_. Fantastic, all plotlines developed. And he's not afraid to kill people off, either.

Currently reading _The Witches of Karres_ by James Schmitz. Great start!

Finished reading Diana Rowland's 'Mark of the Demon', a Louisiana detective must solve a serial killer case whilst trying to work out why her demon summoning has gone wrong in the worst possible way... The blurb made me cringe but this is actually a really good read, things are tied up a little too neatly but it's an entertaining police story with a hint of the supernatural...

I've finished reading Simon Bestwick's 'Tide of Souls' where the UK not only has to deal with rising floods but the massed ranks of the undead that lie beneath the waters... I loved the concept behind the appearance of the undead (although the explanation was a bit laboured) and, despite the writing getting a bit formulaic at times, I thoroughly enjoyed the rest of the book as well. My full review is over Here. I'm now finishing off Henry Zou's 'Emperor's Mercy' and Christie Golden's 'Omen' (Star Wars tie-in)...

Finished Christie Golden's 'Omen' Star Wars tie-in. While it has a lot of the same problems that 'Outcast' (its predecessor) did it manages to be one hell of a lot more entertaining read.
