Also, Abyss, Fallen moves from a holding pattern to "things finally get moving in a big way". I think Jacka finally gets off his writer's keister here and gives us a big shift in how things will go.

Ok, 11-12 chapters in...

Finished up Sam Sykes Seven Blades in Black and very much enjoyed it.

Think I'll test Neal Ashers Cowl next.

I've considered that Sykes series a few times... overall worthwhile?

Re COWL... i found it very different from other Asher work, but very enjoyable.

Finished Dahak 1: Huh a Weber novel without a naval battle.

I know, right?

..tho if you hunt around, he actually has a number of books that end similarly... THE APOCALYPSE TROLL comes to mind

Don't worry, he more than compensates in bk 2.

Sounds good on Cowl not sure I like it yet but just a third into it so far and no clue whats really happening yet.

No clue about Sykes other stuff but Seven Blades in Black is a very solid vengence story with a very entertaining main character. It isn't high art but it is fast paced and action filled. The next book in the series goes onto the purchase when it arrives list which isn't all that common.

You are very much going to enjoy Seven Blades in Black. Sykes might very well have written the story specifically to appeal to your preferences.

Last night I finished my Wheel of Time re-read. It took around 8 - 10 weeks. Maybe a little longer. I skimmed through what I thought as the boring bits, there maybe was one book that could not have been there as nothing seemed to happen in it, no "big event". I can only remember thinking that at the time but through all the read there were certainly some good moments and great scenes. One of my favourites wasTuon finding out about Mat after he released her from her capture. In fact, out of all the characters Mat and Tuon are my personal favourite. The deaths in the series could have been more impactful if the writer's didn't leave the most important ones until the last book. For some reason I had Demandred being obliterated by Balefire to take away all the ones he destroyed but I had that wrong. This time I read the last book quite slowly so I understood more of what was happening. I liked it a lot. My favourite book originally and still after multiple re-reads is Towers of Midnight. There's something so satisfying about it. Today I feel like I should tell the world about this wonderful series but I don't feel a huge sense of loss like I did with Malazan.
Apt is the only one who reads this. Apt is nice.

I had thought it was part of an earlier series but you prompted me to google and see otherwise. And yah, the blurb reads like something i would enjoy.
Into the audible cart it goes!

I have a hard time comparing the Sanderson books to the Jordan books because there was a large gap between when I read them. But I can never decide if I like The Gathering Storm or Towers of Midnight more. TGS had amazing Rand development, while ToM made Perrin badass again.

The Time of Contempt is done. I was surprised to find myself at the end of the book (drawback to using an e-reader, I guess). I'll be getting the next book in the series, probably after Christmas. I started Thief's Magic by Trudi Canavan. It's been sitting in my queue for a long time.

Finished "Luna: Wolf Moon" . Shit has certainly hit the fan nicely.

Not sure what I'll read next. Today was pay day, so I'll probably check and see what I spot at Chapters tomorrow before deciding.

Finished Dahak 3.

This one read like if Weber was held at gunpoint by his editor and told to do Safehold in one book.

I quite enjoyed it actually
Also finished the second Penric novella. These are so good

Just finished Alex Verus bk 10, FALLEN. All good, satisfying, better than the last few books and finally finally shakes up the status quo for the series.

It's not Dresencrack or Kateamine level urban fantasy, but close enough and fun enough that I'll grab 11 when it streets. Glad I finally got caught up on this series.

Next up, THE TRUE BASTARDS.
