Finished Black Company 4 aka Shadow Games yesterday. Subpar entry by comparison. I liked the characters but many of the new additions to the cast feel rather one note. Plus I hated

the fact that so many of the Taken serve as antagonists. After the first trilogy I felt that their story had been brought to a satisfying end already. Plus, I don't see why we couldn't just have a bunch of new opponents

. The story is nothing to write home about. No flying whales and mantas with lasers, no ancient evil demigod, no man-eating castles...Just a long-ish roadtrip with the Black Company with the occasional skirmish that works out for the main characters until it doesn't.
Book 5 apparently focuses on the Lady's POV which I feel may be a welcome breath of fresh air.

Because when it’s moving it’s really moving. Some of the best popcorn I’ve read. I still remain firm that it will be the only Weber I will ever read.

Shame, but as you said in the cheap books thread such an early fire sale didn't bode well. I'm so enjoying the Jean le Flambeur trilogy too, and I will get to the last book of that soon.

The Sparrow is great. It's pretty bleak and holds no punches with humanity. Given it was written in 1996 I think it's pretty prescient. It is taking me time to go through it through due to the bleakness- might need a change of pace in whatever o read next.

Doing something unusual. Reading the giant superhero webserial - Worm. 40% into it, its really really good.

Also listening to Clive Barker's Imajica. Apart from the sex scenes which are irritating, its not bad.
