I read Legend about 25 years ago, what a fun read. Half the time, when I see an Orange, I think about Druss mentoring Orrin.

Love that!

I still need to read Troy! I've got the first two, just need to pick the third up and then I'll start.

You nerds hate on ICE for naming a character 'Kyle' yet get all gushy over a whole series about some goof named Troy?! Ay ay ay!

Doubling down on QT here, I'm tempted to post you a copy of Legend ofr Lord of the Silver Bow; so you feel obligated to read it and you curse me for eternity as you want to read everything else he did!

Finished Inigo's Eleventh Dream. Things are heating up nicely. I do wonder how Edeard's super-power-fueled crusade for justice will eventually explode in his face.

3rding/4thing/5thing?

the David Gemmel love. Legend is just fantastic, and the actual backstory of what inspired Gemmel to write it is great too.

The Troy series and his other Drenai books are all good. Jon Shannow i'm kinda meh about.

just started Jade City by Fonda Lee. enjoying it so far.
meh. Link was dead :(

I ll see what they got of Gemell next time I’m in BAM. No clue when that will be. I ll be going back to the boringness that is RotCG full time after I finish Fitz 9 in another 23 days to continue my Malazan read.

Funny story... I actually refocused on RotCG recently after taking a break to listen to a couple of other books. Turns out I'd given up about a chapter before it really kicks off. Where are Kyle and co at for you atm?

Finally managed to pick up steam on The Dragonbone Chair. I've read about 2/3 today and am moving quickly toward the end. Just ordered book 2.

Finished The Thousandfold Thought. Liked it more than the first two. Not gonna read the 100-page glossary.

Now I'm finally gonna read Hyperion.

About 100 pages into House of Chains, reading bits and pieces of As I Lay Dying between chapters. Almost done with the Faulkner though, so going to move on to something else. I can't concentrate on one book at a time.

Oddly enough, I found similarities between Darl's POV (from AILD) and Erikson's own italicized stream of consciousness sections in Memories of Ice, especially the Mhybe's POV.

Dan Simmons Hyperion? It's been 15 something years since I read the quadrology but in my mind it still stands out as the best, most ambitious and artistic take on blending litterature and art history with hard Sci-fi.

Absolutely love those books. You've got to report back who your favourite pilgrim is.

Finished the second Kate Daniels book, Magic Burns earlier. I am in love with this series, like I said about the first book, it's tropey and silly, sometimes it gets too chick lit, but boy do I enjoy the characters and the action.

The authors are doing a great job of evoking the same feeling of investment I got from Jim Butcher's Dresden Files.

That final battle in this book had me whooping and crying and laughing in short succession.

It's strange but I don't think I've ever seen the fomorians mentioned in fiction before this book and in the Dresden Files.

You more or less express my feelings regarding the early Kate Daniels books. They are silly but fun and extremely addictive.

I feel like there is a certain quotient of snark and action that needs to be reached to make a book addictive. Andrews and Butcher have both found it.

So something that struck me today

I was skimming over my Goodreads shelves and I discovered something depressing. I have had only 1 new 5 star read in the last 3-4 months. I read a lot but I am slightly worried about being able to continue to find really fulfilling books. A lot of the stuff I read now seems a bit mediocre.

Finished Spear of Poseidon, third book in the long war series.
Not as strong, for me, as the first two as it didn't seem hit any of the big pitched battles, but I think the series has enough for me to finish it.

Started the first Dresden book because... Why not, have to see what all the hype is about

I prefer the Drenai books.
“The others followed, and found themselves in a small, stuffy basement, which would have been damp, smelly, close, and dark, were it not, in fact, well-lit, which prevented it from being dark.”
